Horses to follow
By Glenn Di-Mauro Hayes

Better quality gallopers will start to emerge over the next few weeks but those who have had a run or two will have an edge in fitness and a liking for wet tracks will also be helpful for this time of year.

Admiral’s Lady is a six year old Danehill mare who put in a solid showing recently at Moonee Valley in a race for mares 2040 metres when second to the in form Brolago. She is capable in wet or dry conditions and should be suitably placed by co-trainers Sheila Laxon and John Symons in similar company.

Corragio is a consistent performer who ran a competitive second recently to We Wonder in a 2040 metre handicap. Like Admiral’s Lady he goes well on firm or moist ground and appears to be best in the 1800 to 2000 metre range. Another...

Vizard in form of career heading to Beaufine
By Mark Gatt

This Saturday at Belmont Racecourse sees the running of the listed Beaufine Stks run over 1000 metres, where one of the main chances is the George Daly-trained Vizard.

The son of former smart galloper Magic Of Money, himself a winner of the Group 1 Galaxy Hcp in Sydney, he is in the best form of his career winning eight of his last nine race starts.

This will be his biggest test to date but trainer George Daly is quietly confident Vizard can pass the test. He is a very smart horse who is still improving and a win here could see Vizard heading to Melbourne in the Spring.

One horse sure to make a race of it is Real Mak, a daughter of the very good racemare Paklani. Real Mak won last year’s Beaufine Stks and it would not surprise...

Jack’s back at Caulfield
This Saturday’s running of the listed Sir John Monash Stakes, run over 1100 metres at Caulfield, will see the racetrack return of the very smart sprinter Tesbury Jack.

The Julie Scott-trained gelding, who stands at an imposing 17.1 hands, last raced in the 2007 Salinger Stakes at Flemington finishing 10th behind the Bart Cummings-trained Swick, but pulled up lame and was later found to have tore a pectoral muscle, so went straight to the paddock to recover from his injury.

Scott has given TJ plenty of time to recover, and he has been in work since April and Scott has mapped out a testing set of races for the gelding, with both the JJ Liston Stks and Memsie Stks both run over 1400 metres included in his program.

Race day jockey Darren Gauci is excited at...

On the weekend it was Deja Vue for the Australian rugby union side after the boot of the five-eighth Jonny Wilkinson had the Australians thinking it was ground hog day in there 12-10 quarter-final loss to reining World Cup champions England.

England's victory was salt in the wounds of the wallabies when they snared victory through the boot of Wilkinson through penalties even though the Australians kept them try less and had a try of there own.

The All blacks also had their demons reappear after another quarter final departure to France who where not regarded as one of the top teams of world rugby going down 20-18.

The All Blacks who where favourites to win the World Cup again have now been t...

Johnathan Thurston gets off Dangerous tackle Charge
Racehorse Talk
20th September 07

Last night Johnathan Thurston was cleared of a dangerous tackle charge from the game against the Auckland Warriors where they ran out big winners to take them through to the next round in the finals.

The Cowboys main defense against the charge was the fact that he has two torn shoulder muscle which would make it impossible for him to physically pick up a player and put him in a dangerous position.

Thurston who was at risk of missing the finals due to the charge is now free to take the field in the preliminary final against the Manly Sea Eagles.
