Bet365 have the best software when it comes to parlay betting.

Multiple horses in a race, win or place mixed up, multi venues, even multi days is ok.

Having given up quaddies I've taken up nine race place parlays instead.

Really enjoy these unfolding on the day.

Have a go and post your parlays.

See how it goes .....

I have a management spreadsheet for these that can handle up to nine race parlays, if you want a copy let me know.

I've been revisiting some multi betting over the carnival with moderate success  :shy:  I've switched from place to win bets and have been taking from 6 to 9 selections.

I think my problem lies in my staking  :chin:  Previously I was taking a similar stake across all bets and while I might hit a number of winners for a return I was slowly leaking funds.

Am I better to raise my stake to the lower bets (trebles is where I start) and minimize the higher combos?

Yesterday I had 8 legs - 4 winners, two 2nds  , one 4th & a scr. Which managed to treble my outlay.

Am I on the right track?  :chin:

Gintara,

Firstly have regard to their maximum payout rules - always an issue with the corps. No point getting 6 out of  6 winners for a given series if they will only pay you on 4 effectively!

That alone may reduce your outlay but in general terms your stake for ANY given bet should pay attention to your strike rate for that bet and funds of the bank(s).

Its far more work but NOT doing the parlays but working out your bet % on each individual race and betting them alone can make a big difference to your strike rate. Here is how  :-

At the moment your 2nds mean 0 return for a lot of of the parlays - by covering exactas with a % of each bet you can turn these into 1 ( or more ) instead of NIL.

For a formula 3 parlay on 4 races just one 2nd and 3 wins mean you get 1 dividend only instead of 4 when you cover 2nd. Do the math and see the difference this 'insurance' makes. Of course you now also get 4 out of 4 too.

 Fours
ps risk % to cover 2nd depends on the odds of your selection(s) but you should manage to keep it well under 20%. You can make that well under 20% if you do trifectas but the work and skill requirements go up. -())=(

On covering 2nd with an exacta bet(s),

We have all heard how jfc has 100's of tickets if not 5000 on occasion but the small punter does not need to do anything like that to achieve results not so far off his for accuracy of returns.

A few key assumptions need to be made however. Gintara's strike rate suggests his selections are easily inside the top 6 in betting ( probably top 2 ) and you should all know that the top 6 in betting account for over 80% of all winners. This gives us an idea of exacta returns AND what is required to cover most exacta outcomes for 2nd. A punter can cover a total $10 bet quite well for just $2 out of that $10 by writing just 4 50c tickets in a typical market using market order and assuming your parlay selection is the favourite or 1 :-

2,3,4,5/1
2,3,4,6/1
2,3,4/1
2,3,5/1

2 and 3 winning provide 58.33% of the exacta dividend
4 provides 41.66%
5 provides 29.16%
6 provides 12.5%

So just 4 tickets gives us weighted returns to the likely price and a good chance of getting our stake back.

You can cover even smaller outlays than $10 but your % returns get harder to ensure the return of your stake.

Keep in mind that not all markets are the same and you will need to adjust this base to suit a given market. For example :-

Platinum Angel ran 2nd to Belsonic last Saturday and the exacta paid $22.20. The shape of the market clearly showed that there were 4 main chances to beat it much the same in price so the $2 could be done with just 1 ticket and you could drop the 6th in market order as well.  This means you would have 50% of the exacta dividend of $22.50 returning $11.25 per total $10.00 bet. Other combos may have returned a little under $10.00 so it even out in the long run.

Sure it's more work but do you want to get 4 out of 4 in your parlays and 4 dividends or just 3 out of 4 and 1 return. Doing them as individual bets also means you can change things when a storm hits half way through the day or a horse gets scratched.
