Wonder if Nathan Tinkler's mob punt on their horse much?

I see that one was backed on Unitab late.

Me being a goose was on the shortie that ran second.

Shamardal Sires First Winner
Mark Smith - Monday, 27 October 2008

Darley Stud’s champion Shamardal (USA) was off the mark with his first runner on Monday when Patinack Farm’s Happy Hippy finished strongly to capture a 2yo open handicap over 1000 metres at Taree.

Ridden by Morgan Butler for trainer Jason Coyle, Happy Hippy (Shamardal (USA) x Springburn (Soviet Lad (USA)) defeated favourite Lucky Elmo ( Mull of Kintyre (USA) x Crafty Luck (Rory's Jester) by a head with Dublette ( Dubleo (USA) x Leyenda (Hurricane Sky) the same distance back in third.

Purchased as weanling for $32,000 by Serene Lodge from the Edinglassie consignment at the 2007 Inglis Winter Mixed sale, Happy Hippy is out of Springburn, a half-sister to Salinger Stakes (G1) winner Notoire and multiple Listed winner Well Known, out of the remarkable broodmare Lady Violet.

On October 13, Lady Violet foaled her seventeenth consecutive foal, a filly by Statue Of Liberty.

The Champion European three-year-old of his year, Shamardal (pictured) won six of 7 career starts, his only failure coming on the dirt in Dubai. He won all three of his starts at two including the Dewhurst Stakes (G1).

At three he captured the Juddmonte International (G1), Eclipse Stakes (G1), Irish Champion Stakes (G1) and St James's Palace S (G1),

A son of Giant’s Causeway, Shamardal (USA) is out of the stakes-placed Machiavellian mare Helsinki, a full-sister to the high-flying Street Cry (IRE).

After missing last season due to equine influenza, Shamardal (USA) returned for his third season at Darley this year, where his fee has been set at $44,000. His oldest northern hemisphere progeny are yearlings.

With good confirmation, his close relation Street Cry doing well at stud and his tactical speed on the racetrack, Shamardal has the right ingredients for success as a stallion. Certainly worth a try compared to many others.

I hear he has a half brother to this year's Derby winner on the ground. Exciting times ahead for connections.   8-)

Darley’s first-season sire Shamardal moved to the top of the first-season sires’ table by number of winners on 17 June when his daughter Faint Perfume recorded an impressive win at Warwick Farm in New South Wales.
Trained by Bart Cummings the filly settled towards the rear of the field and flew home inside the final furlong to win by two-and-a-half lengths.
Bred by Wynyarra Stud, Faint Perfume is the first foal from the Zabeel mare Zona, herself a daughter of Champion filly and dual G1 winner Danendri and a full sister to G3 winner Zingham.
Shamardal’s eight winners from his first Australian crop include Group 2-placed filly Marquardt and the Listed-placed Premardal. He has also made a promising start with his first northern hemisphere crop, siring two winners so far including a recent eight-length winner Below Zero.

Darley announced European champion 4-time Gr1-winning shuttler Shamardal (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) "has injured his withers & is to be rested for the remainder of the southern hemisphere season". Shamardal "is convalescing in his paddock" in the NSW Hunter Valley & "is expected to make a full recovery before the end of the year". Shamardal will return to Europe with Darley's other shuttle stallions "in time for the northern hemisphere breeding season where he is expected to cover a full book of mares".
