Miracle Mile washed out as Menangle flooded

Champion pacer King Of Swing’s quest for history has to wait another week.

On a night of high drama, a freak and sustained storm forced Club Menangle to postpone the $1 million Miracle Mile. It will now be run next Saturday night.

King Of Swing is trying to become the first pacer to win it three times.

The Miracle Mile was scheduled for 9.40pm last night, but a huge storm and torrential rain hit the track just before 9pm.

The race was pushed back to 10.13pm, but when heavy rain still continued at 10pm, officials made the decision to postpone Australia’s richest harness race.

“We really had no choice. We just haven’t been able to get on to the track to try and get it right for racing,” Club Menangle Racing Manager David Wonson said.

“It’s not just the rain, but the time we’d need to work on the track once it stopped.

“It’s an extraordinary situation and one out of our control.

“We have postponed the race by a week so it can be run next Saturday night.”

King Of Swing’s driver Luke McCarthy said although the delay was not ideal, it wouldn’t impact the champion’s chances.

“We just go back home and spend the next week getting ready for it again,” he said. “It didn’t look good when the rain hit as heavily as it did and just kept coming down.

“It wouldn’t have been a great spectacle even if they’d been able to run it.”

King of Swing is a lot shorter price now 1.60 than he was last week.......I would like to get the tote odds place 1.50.. only 1.08 fixed as Darrel from The Castle would probably say "Tell'im he's dreamin"
