Quezette Stakes Preview
By Mark Wilson

This Saturday sees the running of the Australian Defence Force Quezette Stakes for 3 year old fillies over 1100m.
On a day when Caulfield also hosts the Group 3 Liston Stakes, this is a  great opportunity for those keen on horse betting in Spring to see some of the possible stars of the carnival step out for the first time.
This is a change for punters to see leading and future Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup betting contenders stepping out at Caulfield for this fantastic day of racing hosted by the Melbourne Racing Club.
Last year saw a typically gutsy performance by Bel Mer after being taken to an early lead by jockey Craig Newitt.
By the time they turned for home, Bel Mer had built up a huge break and held on gamely from challengers, amo...

Cockram Stakes Preview
By Mark Gatt

The Group 3 Cockram Stakes run over 1200 metres, has attracted a nice group of horses including last season’s best filly Zarita.

Zarita is a real little star winning seven of her 12 starts including wins in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks and then taking on the Colts in the Group 1 South Australian Derby and winning, the courageous little filly then went to Sydney but failed in the AJC Oaks.

Also resuming in the Cockram is the Mark Kavanagh trained Devil Moon who also failed in Sydney in the Autumn. But if we go back to last spring she strung together three nice wins including the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes and then followed that with a 5th in the Cox Plate and a fourth in the Mackinnon Stakes.

The Bart Cummings trained Mimi Lebrock is...

Aurie's Star Handicap preview
By Glenn Di Mauro Hayes

The first meeting at Flemington for the new season sees several high profile gallopers returning, as they commence their campaigns which for many will undoubtedly culminate at Flemington during the Spring Carnival in three months time.
The Aurie’s Star Handicap is the highlight on Saturday, the race named in honour of the top class sprinter who held the record for the fastest 1200 metres at the track for many many years.
Valedictum returns again for Danny O’Brien and the Umatilla gelding seems to be improving with age.
His trek to Sydney in the autumn was very successful but he’s likely to use this run as a stepping stone to more suitable races later on. Punters looking to place a racing...

The Wallabies and All Blacks are a bloody Disgrace
Racehorse Talk
10th Oct 07

On the weekend it was Deja Vue for the Australian rugby union side after the boot of the five-eighth Jonny Wilkinson had the Australians thinking it was ground hog day in there 12-10 quarter-final loss to reining World Cup champions England.

England's victory was salt in the wounds of the wallabies when they snared victory through the boot of Wilkinson through penalties even though the Australians kept them try less and had a try of there own.

The All blacks also had their demons reappear after another quarter final departure to France who where not regarded as one of the top teams of world rugby going down 20-18.

The All Blacks who where favourites to win the World Cup again have now been t...

Johnathan Thurston gets off Dangerous tackle Charge
Racehorse Talk
20th September 07

Last night Johnathan Thurston was cleared of a dangerous tackle charge from the game against the Auckland Warriors where they ran out big winners to take them through to the next round in the finals.

The Cowboys main defense against the charge was the fact that he has two torn shoulder muscle which would make it impossible for him to physically pick up a player and put him in a dangerous position.

Thurston who was at risk of missing the finals due to the charge is now free to take the field in the preliminary final against the Manly Sea Eagles.
