HAWKESBURY RACETRACK
On 2KSKY this morning one of the commentators lamented the 'short straight' at Hawkesbury.
That comment sent me looking and I found:
Hawkesbury race track has a circumference of 2070m and there is a slight rise from the home turn to the winning post. The track surface is turf and the straight length is 380m and horses race in a clockwise direction.
Does this track favour front runners?

All depends on the pace of the race doesn't it Ol'Pete I would say it is a very fair track that you can win from everywhere as the home turn is well cambered for those coming from the back and getting out wide to run on. What I will say is the track can catch some jocks out, you can not wait until the straight to make your move or you will have missed the boat You need to be making your move on the swing in

It is a poor track, needs cambering, can be very biased to on pace runners, lets hope not today.

Pretty sure the straight is 280m, not 380m...

The track is cambered Dragons Do you agree it can be more a jocks fault than the track bias? imho many on pacers can pinch races due to those back sitting and waiting but once straightening as highlighted the straight is short so most have missed the boat

I haven't watched today as i had business commitments so maybe it played fair i don't know. There was talk a few years back of re-cambering it and lengthening the straight wasn't there?

There's been talk for ages about up grades but that maybe more about the secretary getting the club into the media.
Played pretty fair imho, best horse seemed to win each race, on the fence, out wide, on pace, back markers, think we got it all today.
I was actually worried, had heard through the week the rail was in the same spot for the last 3 meetings which means you don't want to be inside but didn't seem to make any difference.

Serenissima has been one of my horses, I was leaving her out today after doing the form but read an article on racenet that highlighted the track conditions she had been on and should improve on todays track. Got $16 on BF too was only for $5 but I'll take it

Pretty much just followed Snowden and had a ripper day, add that to Dysphonia and Flouramor at Caulfield probably best day for a decent while i reckon

Does anyone else think the apparent on pace advantage is more due to the tight turns than anything else?

I was at Hawkesbury today, excellent day and thought the track raced well. Mind you I found a few winners (including Serenisima and Snow Alert) which helps, though only offsetting a very disappointing outcome (and lousy ride) for one I part own that was running today
