Queensland Racning Ltd

In July 2008 Queensland Racing Limited (QRL) announced that it would begin to officially record the history of racing in Queensland.

After months of research, filming, writing and designing, QRL has officially released the finished products of the Queensland history of racing project.

“Many people believe that without recognising its past, a sport has no future. It is for this very reason that Queensland Racing committed to record the state’s racing past for everyone to experience again,” said QRL’s history project manager Mr David Rowan.

Queensland’s history of racing has been documented in a DVD, guide book and website to be launched on May 1 in a Racing through the years series.

Mr Rowan said the history of racing in Queensland has never been documented in its entirety although there are notable publications about various industry characters, events and club history available.

“The Racing through the years series ensures that valuable past and future pieces of history in this state are not lost,” said Mr Rowan.

Launching on May 1 is the DVD titled Racing through the years: The story of Queensland thoroughbred racing from the people who helped shaped it.

The DVD contains a colourful and in depth look at the development of a great sporting history from the beginning at Coopers Plains in 1843 through to the modern day.

It is narrated by well know industry and sporting personalities and told by the greats of Queensland racing.

The guide book, Racing through the years: A guide to thoroughbred racing in Queensland, contains the most comprehensive facts and figures of our colourful racing past.

The book features extensive horse, jockey and trainer profiles, results of feature and country cups, notable raceday feats and so much more.

Completing the trifecta depicting Queensland’s history of racing is the www.queenslandhistoryofracing.com.au website.

The website will contain more information that one could wish for with stories, videos and photographs, some never seen before.

It holds comprehensive summaries on your favourite horses, local race clubs and race callers. Those following the historical trail will have the ability to add their own local knowledge by submitting stories and events.

The Racing through the years DVD retails for $24.95 and the guide book retails for $19.95. Both can be purchased separately, or together for $40 by contacting Queensland Racing Limited on 07 3869 9777 or visiting www.queenslandhistoryofracing.com.au.
