David Raphael needs to learn the difference between Leon Macdonald who didn't train Starspangledbanner and Leon Corstens who did.

Especially when interviewing Leon Corstens...

What a waste of good land.

They should fence off half the track, and devote it to a nice crop of potatoes.

I thought they'd forced her into selling her 5%, but it appears she held onto it.     Thumb Up

She's the first person I thought of when SSB passed the winning post.

5 March

A woman with a 5 per cent stake in champion colt Starspangledbanner says she refuses to be pressured into selling, despite the lure of a $500,000 windfall.

Massey, who suffers from ill health and has never been to the races to watch her champion, has accused both Coolmore Stud and those in charge of the syndicate of trying to intimidate her into selling.

Massey said she and Kerrie, who worked three jobs and paid Starspangledbanner's vet and training bills, vowed when they bought their share that they would never sell it.

"My life has been a hard slog. This horse was to be a glimmer of hope through it all," she said.

19 June

Quote
Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith, and Susan Magnier purchased Starspangledbanner privately from the partnership that campaigned him in Australia. Michelle Massey was the only one in the original partnership who did not sell her 5% share.

Good on her.  thumbsup

Why would Coolmore try to intimidate her, why wouldn't they just let her keep her 5% ?

Not sure.  Another article about her in the HUN today.  $2 mill per year for her 5% sounds a little optimistic IMHO

Quote
With the three-year-old colt's dual hemisphere success means Ms Massey could anticipate about $2 million, less expenses for insurance, travel, publicity and maintenance, every year. She is the only previous owner to retain a share, refusing $500,000 for her stake.
