Just flicking through the form for the York races Wednesday, and I see Starspangledbanner makes his UK debut for Aiden O'Brien in the 1200m G2 Duke of York Stakes.

The opposition are all 2nd string UK sprinters. Genuine listed - G2 at a stretch, but none of the good ones are running here. The fave, Main Aim, is a decent horse, but if SSB is primed, knowing how much better the Aussie sprinters generally are than the UK sprinters, then he should win easily.

I know if I was the owner, I would have made sure he was set for this race to pick up what should be an easy win. Will be a different story when he gets to the G1s.

I remember SSB was pretty good, but it seemed to be a year with no real stand out sprinters, so I am not sure he is of the same quality of horse that has been sent over in previous years - Scenic Blast, Takeover Target, Miss Andretti etc.

If you read the stable comments from the UK press they seem extremely positive about him. I think he's got 62 or something against older sprinters...if he is regarded as a 4yo there.

SSB really impressed me in the autumn - I doubted that 3yo form from the spring.

I don't question his class against those other sprinters mentioned - just a question of whether he can perform in a new environment.

Main Aim is fair dinkum top class, he will be one of the main contenders come the group 1s.

Starspangledbanner has his fair share of weight from and Australian perspective .

As a group 1 winning 4yo he has, I believe  62.5 kgs.

Comment from Aiden O'Brien "he looks very quick and I've told Johnny [Murtagh] that he will need a neck brace and a parachute riding him" biggrin

There are only two dangers, Main Aim and him not acclimatising.

You are basically getting 3/1 about him acclimatising.
