GOLD COAST TURF CLUB

A GCTC Board Director was expelled at today's Board meeting for contravention of the Club By-Laws. This Board is clearly a very strong and determined one that is prepared to make the hard decisions.

I noted that multiskilling very much to the fore at the GCTC.  Meet Laura Rogers, Clerk of The Course.  Cute eh? Pity only the jockeys get to see her up close.  But that is only her weekend job.

Monday to Friday Laura is every member's best friend in her role of Membership and Functions Coordinator.  A very useful person to know with St Paddy's Day the theme at the Coast in March on 17th. I wonder if she will make Steve Hawkins dye his hair green for the day ?

Having a day in the sun was trainer Peter Balzen.  The Peter Balzen Hcp was the first race last Sat and was won by Soul brother...that's him with the small white blaze on the left.   The multiskilling Peter performed the ceremonial chores for the first race then saddled up Punch Up in the last.  Can anyone guess who the jockey is?

One of the best trainers in Australia is Les Kelly.  Les trains a very small team at the Coast and rarely a week goes by without a decent priced winner.  Just check his profile
http://www.racingvictoria.net.au/Racing/trainer.aspx?trainer_code=17383

Les won with Santo De Lago R4 in Brisbane last Sat,  then could afford a chopper back to the Coast to be honoured with the Les Kelly Handicap at R7.  That's the very relaxed Les (he always looks tense...trainers always do) in the Blue.

Another multiskilling staffer performing hospitality duties on Sat at the  GCTC was Carla Jenkins (left in pic).  Carla is the new Marketing and Events Manager and an absolute delight to know.

One of the Kelly stable supporters and trainer Mark Sims watched on.

Lawlor did what?   When?       I don't think so!

What a desperate porky, Cameron!

To top it off in yesterday's paper, headline Lawlor breaks. Ranks and supports the GC show relocating to bundall  instead of the labour parties site of swampland at Carrara. lol   lol

Well I think you should be glad Mr Cameron is now supporting the Bundall redevelopment.  That new Chairman down there must be the most charismatic bloke on the Coast.  Surprising actually given his weight problems  .

Particularly so when Cameron's friend bushranger Lawlor was Minister for Racing and was demanding the GGTC hand over the deeds to Bundall in order to get the funding.  In other words, daylight robbery.  They seem to conveniently forget that "minor" issue.

Good on the GCTC and Chairman Cook for bringing home the bacon without losing the equity.

Was good to catch up yesty at Flemington with some old friends from the MM card table.

They still talk about Chuggers and Spudda.  Um, Spudda, the young lady with the whip has lost your phone number.
