Perhaps we should argue amongst ourselves over who would make the final 24 of all the Melbourne Cup winners ?

Interesting Authorized. I quickly did my 24.
1. Archer 2. Briseis 3. Carbine 4. Comedy King 5. Comic Court 6. Delta Blues 7. Galilee 8. Grand Flaneur 9. Kingston Rule 10. Kiwi 11. Let’s Elope 12. Makybe Diva 13. Malua 14. Media Puzzle 15. Might and Power 16. Peter Pan 17. Phar Lap 18. Poseidon 19. Rain Lover 20. Rising Fast 21. Saintly 22. The Barb 23. Think Big 24. Vintage Crop
I wouldn't have included Kingston Rule, but he is the track record holder. I'd probably include Efficient at the expense of Kingston Rule, but whatever. I would also love to find a spot for Empire Rose.

I have only come with 18 at the moment, I have, Hall Mark, Light Fingers, Gurners Lane and Doriemus, included so far, that you have not included.
How would you weight your 24 AH ?

Doriemus should be in, IMO.

Doreimus would be the only horse in history, I'd imagine, who won the Caulfield, Melbourne cup double and was also second in both races. He was a truly great stayer.
If Kingston Town held on to win his cup he'd be included in everybodies 24, and as such I have Gurners Lane who if I am not mistaken carried WFA, as did Kingston Town ?

I considered all of those four. Gurners Lane, I'm not sure about, I just know Kingston Town would be in it though which makes me think that he should be. Doriemus deserves a go. I had Light Fingers in originally. Hall Mark, I didn't even think of, but he'd probably deserve a go.
I don't know who I would take out. Perhaps Malua, although what he did in his career was phenomenal. Maybe Saintly? But his win was amazing. Comedy King could come out, actually. So too Media Puzzle (not a great winner, although the win was unbelievable, if you get me). Think Big is only there because he won two of them.
It is a really interesting discussion though.
PS - Rising Fast went one better than Doriemus. He won the Cups double in 1954 (as well as the Cox Plate), and he won the Caulfield Cup in 1955 before running 2nd in the Melbourne Cup (many believe the jockey should have protested against Toparoa, Tommy Smith's first winner).

Do they get the weight they carried for their win?
And do they perform the way they performed on the particular day of their win?

I'd have to say no - I reckon then you are playing with fire, because effectively Kingston Rule is the winner (what a joke!!! he was a worthy winner, but best ever? no way).
Having to weight would be rather difficult really.

Think Van der Hum could get a mention on the memorable moments criteria.

Links work for me.
Can't argue with the first two home in the Caulfield Cup.
I've always thought Lets Elope was the best weighted horse I ever saw in a Melbourne Cup and would have her on top if she had to carry 51kg.

Would it be fair to say most of us colour our thoughts on Cup winners on what they ultimately achieve throughout their careers ?
If we admit this, we would have to weight these horses on their career achievments.
Lets Elope in the oldern days handicaping would have on her career weight about 59+ kgs, On modern day handicaping about 55.5.
