Just confirmed on Radio TAB - what a shock!

Racing Victoria

Racing Victoria stewards on Friday inquired into the analyst’s report on the urine sample provided by Stathi Katsidis at Flemington on the 3rd November 2007.

The analyst had reported the presence of Phentermine an anorectic (appetite suppressant).

Evidence was taken via telephone from Stathi Katsidis and from Dr J Vine, Director of RASL.

Stathi Katsidis pleaded guilty to having delivered a sample of urine which was found on analysis to contain the presence of a banned
substance Phentermine.

Stathi Katsidis was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Thursday, 15th November, when he was stood down from riding and to conclude at midnight on Saturday, 22nd December 2007.

Prior to Stathi Katsidis riding track and in trials, he must produce a
clear urine sample.

4TAB had an interview the other day with a former jockey and asked about diuretics.  Wish I could remember his name (it could even have been Robbie Laing, as I heard parts of his interview) and he said he used to take them.

They are so bad that he had an ulcer by the time he was 19 and made him so damned weak that he could hardly walk at times.

It's a dreadful way to try to control weight.

Jockey Katsidis charged with possession

One of Queensland's top jockeys is to face court on charges of possessing ecstasy and steroids.

Stathi Katsidis was stopped at a random breath test in Toowoomba last night.

Police say he returned a positive breath test and blew 0.19, almost four times the legal limit, and when his car was searched officers found steroids and ecstasy.

Katsidis has been released on bail and will appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court later this month.

Malcolm Tuttle from Queensland Racing says Katsidis has been breath tested this morning and has been cleared to ride on the Sunshine Coast today.

"There'd be a number of people and apprentices and I guess Stathi's peers to some extent to look up to him as a role model," he said.

"I think that it's disappointing whenever we see leading sports people, whether they're involved in the racing industry or indeed other sports within Australia, involved in this sort of controversy."

Yesterday Katsidis rode the beaten favourite - Golden Edition - at the Group One Lightning Stakes at Flemington in Melbourne.

In 2006 Katsidis refused to provide a urine sample to stewards and took time off later that year citing personal issues

This doesn't come as a surprise rumours have abounded for years on this,I feel for his Grandad who lives in Toowoomba who adores Stathi.

It begs the question:  Why did the police feel it necessary to search his car?

Was it because of rumour? Or was it simply because they had the power to do so?

How many people who have been breath-tested and found over the limit have had their cars searched?  I can't answer from experience because it has never happened to me.  However, I wonder about the "powers" that allow police to do this without good reason.

Anybody able to answer question 4?

I would say that if he hadn't of been over the limit HWNN, then i suggest they would have just let him on his way.

Totally disagree.  I have been pulled over for a random breath test in three states and never had my car searched (nor booked).  Mind you I did go DUI in 1969 (39 years ago) and not then was the car searched.  If the car had drugs as the press has indicated then my only conclusion is that Stat had upset the apple cart, afterall you have to remember that he was on a hot pot in Melbourne a few hours earlier and I don't subscrible to the line mentioned by by a nic over on TNHRCF that drinking in the air is three times worse than on land.  beer

I've  spent some time in the air.

MagiC, that wasn't the question.  Yes, if he'd been under the limit he most likely would have been told to go on his way.

However, he was over the limit so what was the reason for the car search? Were they looking for a beer line from the boot to his mouth?

As I asked, were there rumours in Toowoomba and that was the reason?

OR

Was it simply because they could?

Some people get a bit power hungry at times and go overboard simply because they have the power to do so.

Westie, have never heard that one before:  drinking in the air is three times worse than on land.  Sounds like something out of La La Land.  :smiley

Ah haaaaa!!!

http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,23160146-3102,00.html

The article, in part:

"I had a few drinks on the plane, some wine. I arrived back in Brisbane and I was met at the airport and driven back to Toowoomba," Katsidis said.

"I had another three cans of vodka in the car and I had been wasting. I was on my way to an awards night for my brother Michael.

"I am sorry I got behind the wheel but there were other people in the car with me.

"It was not a random breath test. My car was pulled over by the police. They said it was on suspicion of something."

Now that's what I wanted to know!!!  I think to search a vehicle they must have some kind of information.  Or sheer bloody-mindedness, which it can be with some jumped up egos.

Racing & Sports report that Stathi said the police had had a report of someone speeding in the area  :smiley and that's why they then searched the car after he blew over the limit. Yeah.

Stathi says there were others in the car with him and it wasn't his gear and he will be fighting the charges.

Well, it stands to reason, he wouldn't be using steroids, would he?  More likely be a boxer or body builder using them.  shocked

I think Stathi has been stitched up here.  I don't condone drugs and steroids and wouldn't have thought that Stathi would be using them.

Obviously, somebody knew something and did a bit of dobbing.  Some people are really, really low.

are u serious look at his track record not very good on the drug front, of course he is going to say they were not his.
i think the stewards should have swabbed him when they breathalyzed him.
