O'Brien to use Lasix for all Breeders' Cup runners

AIDAN O'BRIEN will run all four of hisBreeders' Cup challengers on
Lasix this week after abandoning his policy of a year ago when he tried
to compete without using the anti-bleeding medication.
Last year in a bid to end a run of 28 consecutive losses O'Brien, who had previously consistently followed US custom and used Lasix, ran only one of his Santa Anita starters on the drug but that horse, Marathon challenger Man Of Iron, was the only one of his team to produce a victory.
This year Bright Horizon, Master Of Hounds, Together and Beethoven have all been declared to run on Lasix, as have the majority of the European challengers, including Goldikova, Midday, Workforce and Paco Boy, plus the Godolphin contingent.
The exceptions are Behkabad, Plumania and two of the John Gosden-trained challengers Flood Plain and Utley. His other runner Debussy will run on Lasix, having done so when winning the Arlington Million in Chicago this year.
Many visiting trainers choose to use Lasix so that their challengers compete on the same terms as the Americans.
Goldikova
ran on Lasix last year while Sir Michael Stoute used the medication for
Conduit before he claimed the second of his two Turf successes.
One of Workforce's opponents, Dangerous Midge,
who the won the Dubai Duty Free Arc Trial last time out to earn his
Breeders' Cup trip, will race in blinkers for the first time.
