Gee that is disturbing news.

There've been a lot of discussions going on at GC of late.  Pity it's got to this, though. chin

I thought the Doomben debacle would have created angst amongst Bob's supporter.

Interview up on the 927 website opens the debate regarding RQ's commitment to Cushion racing surface (so far they have placed one at Caloundra and another at Toowoomba).

The speaker is Ron Charles who was CEO at Santa Anita & Golden gate tracks in California.  He was responsible for the now defunct Cushion surface.  Seems the US jury is still out on where to go with all this.  One issue in common with here and California is that gaming turnover is significantly down on the synthetics and it seems that punters have voted with their pockets.  Which begs the question "why go with synthetics when you know that turnover, the life blood source, will decline?"

Recommended listening....but be quick, 927 wipe the replays after about 3 days.  Go to:

and click on the Ron Charles "Listen Now".

It won't take long to find out how well the new board accepts it's responsibilities to be even handed in administering the three racing codes. chin
According to the CM Bob is wrestling with the problem of whether harness racing headquarters at AP warrants the construction of a new grandstand and restaurant after the old structure was demolished on safety grounds. Undecided

Maybe a bit of lateral thinking is called for.

Wouldn't put it past Bob to sell AP and build a track inside Doomben with lights .Then the trots will be back to where they began as tenants of the old BATC now BRC Thumbs Down

Why would it be a bad thing if the Trots were at Doomben?
Makes sense to me.

It didn't work at AP when there was an inside track and same story here .Maybe Bob could sell AP and let the trots buy Doomben with the funds beer

Was before my time, but in what way did it not work at AP?

I have no agenda here either way but I do see TO on trots does not justify prizemoney and the assets they hold.
If they can combine it makes sense to me Undecided

On the same thought process I don't see why RQ hold onto Deagon????
If Doomben - which is a racing centre, costs $200000 to maintain, what does Deagon cost and what does it provide in return?

AP was a  heavy sand track about 6f in circumference maybe more or slightly  less, very tight track when night trotting started in 1968 the APTC was formed and from memory the chairman was Clive Uhr also chairman of the landlord BATC .The trotting track was a half mile  circumference on the inside of the sand galloping track so the spectators were separated from the action and the track had to race right handed to fit in with the winning post and grandstand etc .Eventually with Govt funding the APTC acquired the track from the BATC and constructed the current larger track racing in the opposite direction with facilites to match .This bought the racing up close which was what the patrons wanted.Personally I liked the old half mile set up and the variety of races held in those days. Two enclosures for IDoms plenty of bookies and good night out .I don't think harness racing want to be tenants they want theior own place.Similar thing in Victoria where they moved from the showgrounds to MV as tenants of the MVRC.That's about it DJH.Over and Out thumbsup
