The BRC Medal is awarded to the jockey who scores the highest points from a team of judges. Bart Sinclair, Wayne Wilson and Les Harris allocate points each Saturday metro race day on a 3-2-1 basis.
Larry Cassidy got away from the field with his recent 4-winner bag at Doomben. On that day he scored the maximum of 9 points.
Final scores are:
Larry CASSIDY 111
Jim BYRNE 102
Stathi KATSIDIS 100
Glen COLLESS 57
Michael CAHILL 49
Chris MUNCE 47
Shane SCRIVEN 35
Jason HOLDER 34
Brad STEWART 32
Damien BROWNE 26

Good innovation, eh. Nice prize at the end of it.
BRC is also presenting trophies to the winners of jockeys' and trainers' premierships.

I'm all for recognition of anyone in any industry.
Why wouldn't you give the award to the Premiership Winner? What is the point of a subjective vote? Wouldn't most jockeys go with the most wins theory for top jockey?
Who won the Brisbane Premiership anyway?

Who won the Brisbane Premiership anyway? While it might be that the weekly point system will be just a convoluted path leading to the same destination (as the premiership) - there are spin-offs. With the CM involved as a sponsor, we can be sure that there'll be a story on jockeys in Monday's press. There's more to write about in an up-and-coming apprentice winning most points in a particular Saturday than telling us that Stathi Katsidis continues to lead the premiership by 5.
The Medal gives some promotion to some of the "lesser lights" who are very competent riders, but for various reasons, will not be contenders for the premiership. They do ride good races and win because of that; IMO they deserve more publicity than they currently receive.

Michael CAHILL hit the jackpot on Saturday.
He got top marks for his win on Deacon (twice), and his win on Falco Star.
He begins the year with a good margin.

Did LC get any points deducted for Fillydelphia or was there something wrong with the horse?
