Was reading a thread where a suggestion was made that all up place betting wasn't a bad Idea, been thinking more and More about it, cos I did it once and turned $50 into $5,000 I have never tried again as it was slow (it took about 3 weeks betting about 2/3 days a week) and hard on the nerves,
The Challenge is to see who can turn a Hypothetical $100 into a Hypothetical $5,000
I would suggest that you cannot bet any more than 3 days a week to be fair to those unavailable due to other Commitments (like wasting your time with a Job!) More than 3 days a week, you can bet Mon, Tues, Wed, but then you are banned the rest of the week, or you can bet wed, Thurs, Sat etc you pick the days you want, your choice,
You can have as many bets a day as you like, if you back 4 placegetters in a row and one gets beaten you just go back to the start again. there is no limit as to how many goes you have, just when a loser pops up you go straight back to the start again,
The object is two fold, first to see if any of us can do it or did I just fluke it the first time?
Second to see who can get their in the least number of bets, just remember that getting their is the main objection, if you do you will probably do it in the least number because you will be the only one who does
If anyone is interested let me know
Any extra rules that you might suggest would be  welcome, or if you think one of my rules should be dropped that is OK too!
I would suggest we start it on Saturday if it's a goer

I asked Jim on another thread what was his nic on the old forum, he said it was "endangered species".

I think there was another one...... one which escapes me.

But given this comp, I reckon he might be DoubleDee.

I thought of the Idea, not sure if I have the patience to run it on my own but will help where I can, don't know anything about spreadsheets etc etc to do them Graphs if that would be required,
probably everyone could monitor themselves and as long as their selection is in by post time or say 30 minutes before the race you are investing in, when we have a winner we can go back and  check the results,

Shoudn't be too hard should it?

I have been visiting this Forum and quite a few years ago was on Forums not sure if it was this one, what do you mean "The Old Forum" JWH? I have had other names on another Forum as I said a long time ago but when you are logged out for substantial periods of time, I forget the passwords, also I have had BigPond/Optus/Primus/Dodo and Vodafone and now Google email addresses, I can't remember which email goes with which Password and Nic etc, don't have the previous emails and they make you change everything if one thing changes, I was George Moore somewhere but couldn't tell you where, if it was "The Old Forum" or not or some other Forum, will try to remember if I had other names and what they are,
I have never been on any Forum under more than one name at a time if that is what you are thinking
Can Categorically state that I am not DoubleDee willing to sign a stat dec to that effect if you need it
Anyway I thought the whole Idea of a Nic was to protect the innocent? you know the names have been changed etc etc.........

As an after thought--shite--do you sleep---that knowledge of yours on horseracing is staggering---you should try a job at Sky---you would do some of them easily !!  Enjoy your posts in anycase.    biggrin

JP is (understandably) exhausted from numerous postings in recent days. unsure

JP

Not sure exactly what you're proposing, but a couple of things that need to be straightened out, IMO:

1.  There has to be a limit on the number of tries (new starts) a punter has.  Perhaps 5 would be reasonable.

2.  I assume you're talking about ALL-UP, not partial all-up.

3.  I think you're referring to PLACE only?

4.  There'll need to be stipulation on the dividend used.  Pick one of the TABs?  I don't think fixed odds is a goer.

5.  There should be an agreement of time of posting.  Say 10 minutes before the jump?

6.  Always useful to give some guidance on editing of bets.  Maybe a bet can be cancelled (up to 10 mins before jump) - odds might be too short, heavy rain, etc.

They're a few things that come to my mind.

If you get 5 in a row can you bank that? or do you need to keep "all upping" the lot until you hit $5000?

Umm,  chin

An intersting concept which is based on all up betting where with an initial stake of $100 will take approx 7 - 12 winners in a row.  Unless you like em really short.

I agree with Double Dee that you will have to streamline a few rules if you wish to include a prize.  It also would in thoery have a bearing on the price if for in fact you were going to have $2500 on a $1.30 pop that the weight of your money should the bet have been placed most likely would have brought you in to a $1.20 or shorter.

But anyway, I reckon :

Every punter gets 10 goes at $100 per starting stake.
No more than 3 bets any 7 day period.
Bets must be posted 10 mins prior to race and can't be cancelled within 2 min of official starting time.  (if a race gets delayed too bad).
Whoever does the spreadsheet selects the TAB.
There is "no banking" at any stage.

How does those rules sound everyone?    noteworthy

Far too complicated to speculate on "what would happen to the divvy had the bet been placed".  The bets won't be all that big, and we'll be betting into sizeable pools.  Just go with the divvy as posted by the TAB.

I see no reason to restrict the bets/week.  No one does that in practice. lol

Agree, no banking.  All-up.
