Stewards today resumed an inquiry opened on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Eagle Farm in regard the tactics adopted by jockey Brad Pengelly as the rider of Braebrook in race one, the One Metro Win in the Last Year 1000m. Stewards harboured concerns with jockey Brad Pengelly's riding of Braebrook in the home straight.

Today trainer of Braebrook Mr T. Sears provided evidence to the inquiry as well as jockey Brad Pengelly.

Subsequently jockey Brad Pengelly was found guilty of a charge under AR135(b) in that as the rider of Braebrook he did fail to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure that Braebrook was given full opportunity to win or to obtain the best possible place in the field.

The specifics being:

1)    That between the 300 metres and the 200 metres jockey Pengelly failed to exercise sufficient vigour on Braebrook when there was an opportunity to improve the position of Braebrook forward behind Shakeva and to the inside of Tisani Boy when it was reasonable and permissible to do so.

2)    That near the 200 metres when an opportunity to improve the position of Braebrook existed to the inside of Tisani Boy jockey Pengelly failed to take that opportunity when it was reasonable and permissible to do so.

3)    For a period from leaving the 150 metres until nearing the finish line jockey Pengelly remained behind the heels of Tisani Boy when there was an opportunity to improve the position of Braebrook to the inside of that horse.

After considering the submissions from jockey Brad Pengelly in respect of penalty, stewards advised him that they believed that whilst this was his first offence under this rule, stewards felt his riding of Braebrook in the home straight fell well below the standard to be expected of a rider of his seniority and ability and believed the appropriate penalty to be a suspension of his license to ride in races for a period of two months to commence at midnight Saturday, August 7, 2010 and to expire at midnight October 7, 2010.

Mr Sears was advised that there was no evidence to suggest any impropriety on his behalf and stewards believed he had not breached any Racing Rules.

Braebrook runs again Sat at EF R1 ..........unless its grown another leg it's no hope.

Super iriony that Brad  picks up the ride on Kneel and Raise in R1 after getting time on Braebrook and presumeably sacked or sacked himself from it today .
Kneel and Raise bolts in at big odds and Braebrook unplaced.

Appeal against conviction dismissed but varied the penalty, reduced to 7 weeks What a joke, a one week reduction. lol

While it was evident he didn't show a lot of vigour the horse wouldn't have won and why would he want to stop it?

Went like a crippled crab at its next run as I posted earlier.

Plenty of punters were screaming after SDL was "slowly away" yesterday, then had no luck in the run. Sad
