I have been going through the stats pages on Racenet lately looking for combinations that may prove profitable over time.
I have found a few combos where the strike rate is not to bad, but I was wondering if anyone on here has ever tried (even on paper) to see if a profit can be made?
I have gone over results for Sydney races Sat & Wed from the start of this year and found a few combos who are in the black betting level stakes. I know that is not a lot of results, but it was still interesting to see who has done well in that time.

If Moody/Nolen wasnt the best it would go close. As for it being profitable - not sure.

Moody/Nolen I haven't got to yet (387 starts might take me awhile smiley) I am a fan of both though thumbsup
The First combos I checked out was C J Waller/G Schofield & Joseph Pride/Corey Brown.
Schofield is ridding great for everyone at the moment, but he really seems to go well on Waller horses.

At the risk of sounding aloof, backing combos like that relies on others judgements rather than facts.
There may be/is some merit in the short term  with other factors added though

Very true DJH, it is really only a starting point, I hope to add other factors as I go along  smiley

  Thumb Up
There is no doubt many trainers put certain jocks on when they are ready to win.
Pride/Brown, Pride/Bowman, Pride/ Schofield spring to mind.
Other jocks have a much lesser chance but not no chance.
It is a factor but far less crucial than most others.
What happens if Joe gets told all his horses with Brown on are starting unders?
He changes jocks!
Same result but 1 point better.

Racing And Sports publishes this information.

http://www.racingandsports.com.au/

Search for a jockey or trainer and you'll get all sorts of information regarding combinations by season with profit and loss figures based on SP. (and they're worked out correctly now.  smiley)

Your theory has sound merit Wenona, back in the 70s I spent grueling hours on similar stats, had a stack of form/ racing extracts and discovered many interesting combinations. Much easier today with all the available info at the end of the keyboard. Definitely worth the effort.

This could turn into a very interesting thread.

I will read with interest. Would be great to pick out a few combos and follow them over the spring.

We might all get rich  bop
