I have been going through the stats pages on Racenet lately looking for combinations that may prove profitable over time.
I have found a few combos where the strike rate is not to bad, but I was wondering if anyone on here has ever tried (even on paper) to see if a profit can be made?
I have gone over results for Sydney races Sat & Wed from the start of this year and found a few combos who are in the black betting level stakes. I know that is not a lot of results, but it was still interesting to see who has done well in that time.

Thanks Ricardo and Wenona; A most useful thread and I have found that it is not just the high hit rates that are important, but the High Payout incidences that make it worthwhile. Secondly I only use it as a last check and when what I call an unusual hi-pay combination of Trainer and Jockey appears, in the trailing part of the analysis, and yet does not appear in the main selections part, I take a much closer  second look, and if it is a relatively  high payout prospect then it must go into the multiple exotic type bets. I will take note of the combinations you have made and consider an extension of my tables.

How long are those stats over?/ seems they would be a loty longer than 12 months, sounds like 5 years or more maybe even a lot longer, for Craig Williams to have 122 rides for Casper Fownes, Williams has been back in Australia for a long while now hasn't he?

Yes JP, those stats are from longer time periods. At first I was only using recent stats, but decided to take the results from further back as well.

Glad you have got something out of it pegasyber smiley

The Staged buildup by computer of analysis for Race 6 The MEMSIE STAKES 28 Aug 2010. Now today is not a good day at Caulfield if track is slow. This is absolute first stage mostly from the UNITAB site Form data and shows first level Trainer and Jockey combinations of interest; and the Horse Nos Order for Speed Ratings, Weight Modified Speed Rating, Simulated Pace Rating and Last Race Finish speed Rating.

Quote
RF270810 CF62808F * RACE NAME ID* [ MEMSIE STAKES 1400 metres.]

RF270810 CF62808F * SIMUL PACE ALL[  8  6  12  2  11  7  13  4  10  9  1  14  * DBLCHK

This sectional Data Base keeps automatically building up as the various analysys programs are executed. Eventually the final program analyses this data for the race and comes up with a one-liner and it would look just like this.
 F4 5/CNT [  5  12   2   6    8    ].  $VRUF$ [    5    6     8   12     2    ]
 * NOTE:  These numbers above are not actual computer selections for today's Race 6, as analysis run has not yet been completed for this race.

As the Jackpot pool for this event is starting at $106854, you can expect some shenanigans. If I had to be at the races today and if track is SLOW or worse I would just take a Quinella [  5  12  ]  and  would throw the form away.

This idea has a lot of merit. At the beginning of each racing year I identify a group of trainers and jockeys and they become my combination/s for that racing year.

This year I am using:  Trainer = A E Bailey, C E Conners, C Waller, D Payne, J B Cummings, John Thompson, L Smith, P Moody, R Price, R W Smerdon
Jockey = AlanKennedy, BAvdulla, GColless, HBowman, LNolen, MRodd, NRawiller, PHarvey

When one of these combinations appears I apply some other filters and then back the runner if it qualifies.
There is some good success to be had.

Was a very strong win that.

People may laugh at the moment but do not be surprised if Sir Mark sends this one to the Fillies Guineas. Her pedigree suggests a mile is not beyond her.
