Must surely take away from the credibility of the Hall Of Fame.

Bentley has crushed raceclubs, reduced betting TO, and forced all participants to follow what he wants- not what they want or what is best for the industry.
He is probably the most disliked person in Qld racing.

I feel sorry for anyone who earned their start in the HOF, this takes some gloss off the award for mine

RACING Queensland defends Bob Bentley induction to Hall of Fame
THE appointment of Chairman Bob Bentley to the Racing Queensland Hall of Fame has attracted criticism mainly surrounding accusations that his name was not on the list of prospective inductees sent to industry stake-holders participating in the selection process.

The RQ Board insists proper process was followed and that it was made clear in writing to all panel members on the nomination form that the Awards Committee could add new inductees at its own discretion and that the final selection decision remained with that Committee.

The criticism that has followed the induction of Mr Bentley as part of the Racing Queensland Industry Awards on Saturday night provoked a quick response from the control body 24 hours later.
It insists the decision to give discretionary powers to the Awards Committee was passed by the Queensland Racing Board on June 26 2009 after several unsuccessful attempts had been made to induct trail-blazing lady jockey Pam O’Neill to the Hall of Fame.

The RQ Board welcomes the appointment of Ms O’Neill and says there was a good reason that Mr Bentley’s name was not included in the list of proposed inductees sent to industry stake-holders.

A joint statement from RQ Deputy Chairman Tony Hanmer and Chief Operations Manager Malcolm Tuttle states: “The reason Bob was not nominated is that if he knew his name was being put forward he would have asked for its removal.

“Bob Bentley has done things no other person in the Queensland racing industry has achieved. Bob is Queensland’s inaugural Chairman of the Australian Racing Board and Vice President of the Asian Racing Federation and a Board member of the International Horse Racing Federation.

“These are enormous achievements in their own right, not to mention the $80 million in industry funding he has managed to secure back off the State Government to be used to go back into racing industry infrastructure.

“Bob was the instigator and driving force behind the original QRIS breeding scheme and later the QTIS and QTIS 600 Scheme.

“Without Bob Bentley’s effort and understanding of the relationship of breeding and racing and convincing Government of the need, the breeding industry in Queensland would have collapsed.

“Bob, against all odds and criticism, forged ahead with the revolutionary cushion track, pushed for part funding from the Government and secured the continuation of racing at Toowoomba.

“We wanted the award to be a surprise and Bob had no idea that the award was being made,” said Messrs Hanmer and Tuttle, who welcome inquiries on 0411 193 582 (TH) or O419 759 457 (MT).

The issues raised and passed by QR Board resolution in June 2009, released in conjunction with the RQ statement relating to the Hall of Fame decision regarding Mr Bentley, were released today as well. These read:

1 The former BTC Horse of the Year will now become the Queensland Horse of the Year. QRL will allow sponsorship of this event and we are currently in final negotiations to have the sponsor's name included after 'Queensland Racing.'

2 The determination of the QRIA Committee of how the Horse of the Year will be decided is included in the minutes of its June 4 (2009) meeting. The Queensland Racing Hall of Fame will also be managed by the QRIA Committee.

3. The QRIA Committee will become a Committee of the Board with the Chairman decided by the Board.

RQ points out that the above was moved by Bill Andrews and seconded by Bill Ludwig and that 'in addition to this the new Awards Committee proposed that the final decision of the Hall of Fame inductees remains with the Awards Committee. The Committee has the authority to add new inductees at its own discretion.'

Not having been to a Racing  Awards night I'm wondering whether the inductees are presented with a Gong of some sort like the Emmys and do they make an acceptance speech and thank everyone and if so can anyone who was there give a coherent report on what happened. wacko
