Bob Bentley's inclusion in racing hall of fame sad, says The Ear

THE appointment of Racing Queensland boss Bob Bentley to the state's Racing Hall of Fame has been described as a "joke", "disgraceful", "laughable", and "pathetic" but I think it is just plain sad.

I was on the panel which voted for the Hall of Fame inductees and BB wasn't a candidate. Silly me, fancy wasting a vote on a jockey who has ridden 62 Group 1 winners (fifth of all time) including three Melbourne Cups. Instead two blokes decided they would just pop BB in without consulting the judges. To be fair BB had no idea he was about to be launched into immortality. And that is the sad thing. Those who in effect queue jumped BB showed they are totally out of touch with a majority of racing folk. The way the appointment was made smacks of an arrogance of mind boggling proportions. Despite our differences, I have no problems with BB getting a recognition award. But not in the Hall of Fame and I think most agree.

Sorry to disappoint you Ted, but "TUGGER" was the biggest dill of them all, nearly gained ALP pre-selection for the seat of Caloundra once!!.
