I'd disagree and say plenty of excuses [unless of course ever track is as wet as today].

Really think it was abt handling conditions best - Shocking's improved but he goes well in the wet. Plenty of those staying types just struggled make ground.

Concern would be Alandi looking to be struggling to tack on.

When Zavite's one of the horses to follow I'm inclined to question it.

Wet track days = forgive & forget days.

It has been well documented that Zavite had back problems all his life, they have now got it settled down for the first time in his life and Anthony Cummings said before his first start this prep that this would be by far his best prep, he has already won in excess of $2m so to be potting him and infering he isn't much good is fraught with Danger, Zabeels do get better with age so don't hold that against him either

Sorry mate - I meant no excuses for anything outside the top 4 as concerns 'luck in running'.

Obviously agree there will be plenty of excuses given the state of the track.

I wasn't happy where he was in the run but that was a terrible run, too bad to blame the jockey, the trainer might have some answers ?

Seriously Matt, what was your thinking behind backing Rebel Raider what

He's flat out getting warm till 2400m and as discussed when he won back in Adel I raised concerns then about his actual form.

I couldn't back him with yours until he shows something in Melb Undecided

What class was he up against today ?

He is well and truly up to that class over further at least.

I have no problem with the horse although after his run today I am concerned.

The run today was nowhere near his best form.

Debatable at the very least but time will tell.

Yep yep understood  Thumb Up

Had a quick look at replay few times - Monaco Consul & Mourayan seemed to have some issues getting run when they wanted too - MC finishing off well.

C'est LG & Dr Fremantle both did well finish but I don't know that I'd want to backing them till they return to the winners list first.

Just reading some stuff in the paper over the last couple of weeks, we might be flat out getting a dry track during the spring, so todays form may well hold up.

Yep quite true manikato.

From stewards...

C Lindop (Rebel Raider) reported that her mount didn’t handle the track conditions today.

J Cassidy (Danleigh) reported that the gelding was never travelling on the bit throughout the event and was under pressure prior to the home turn.

C Newitt (Red Ruler) reported at scales that he was obliged to race a little closer when he was tightened for room by Monaco Consul (NZ) approaching the 1400m.

L Nolen reported at scale that he felt there was something amiss with Speed Gifted and for that reason he eased it down over the final 100m.  A subsequent veterinary examination of Speed Gifted revealed no abnormalities.  The veterinary surgeon of trainer Mr L Freedman, Dr J Walker, advised the Stewards that Speed Gifted pulled up distressed and after undergoing an endoscopic examination revealed that the gelding was suffering from a mild respiratory tract infection and undertook to notify the Stewards in due course, the results of a full veterinary examination.
