MELBOURNE, Oct 20 AAP - Apprentice Jack Hill has been suspended for a month and fined $1000 for causing an eye injury to his mount Lanky by hitting the gelding with his whip before a race at Donald earlier this month.
Racing Victoria (RV) stewards found Hill guilty of a charge of misconduct, in that he forcefully struck Lanky on the off-side of the head with his whip prior to the running of the Maiden (2000m) on October 10.
On viewing pre-race footage and evidence provided by RV veterinarian Dr Richard Cust, stewards were of the opinion that it was reasonable to accept that the action led to an eye injury being sustained by Lanky.
Hill's suspension started at midnight on Wednesday and expires at midnight on November 19.
