Hey all, my first post on here. Just want to let it be known that I love racing, how can you knot biggrin

Righto back to it then hey,

I'm just wondering how the Winterbottom Stakes is only at Group 2 level when it carries a total prizepool of $750,000??? There are plenty of other Group 1's out there run at $500,000 prizepool and some for even less (the Randwick Guiness was $350,000 last year if memory serves me correct  unsure).

So just wondering why it isn't at Group 1 level.

Cheers

It may be a Group 1 next year  - the increase was approved in order to try and get it up to G1 status.

I have to say though, this year's field doesn't really warrant G1 status.

G2 definitely, but it isn't as good as the race two years ago - Takeover Target vs Apache Cat - perhaps it is as good as last year's.

It doesnt deserve to be a Group One. it is pandering to the ego of a few in charge of WA racing.

Should be concentrating on improving racing in WA instead of big noting. Racing in WA is not going as well as people think and they are covering up the cracks with wallpaper.

I think the final field will explain why it's not at Group 1 status.....
A lot of the nominations haven't accepted, leaving it a relatively weak race.

I agree with Whitefriars,  have Waratahs Secret with perhaps Marasco and Idyllic Prince for the placings.  Will the distance be a worry for Ma Ma Machine.

Marasco will be rattling home as well. I like the boy as Bert Newton would say

I only threw Tarzi in as he'll be a massive price and he will be running home at some good exoticia value beer

Bit of a blowout for win backers. I know the dual faves finished 3&4 but the F4 paid 12K in Victoria - seemed very light on.

WA Handicapper doesn't believe that this race is worthy of an upgrade, that is the indication given to the local press
