Ranger is just about unbeatable. His was the run of the race last week in a much, much superior grade. I would have backed him in the same quality field this week but he has shown up in a far weaker line up. $2.30 around at the moment. He is a $1.50 chance.

Think his connections meant to call him 'ranga' - being by Testa Rossa... lol

Anyway, the 2 and 7 are the dangers.

I blackbooked him after his 1st ever start, always promised plenty and is now starting to deliver

I don't think it was the run of the race, he got left behind and only took advantage of an inside run and gaps in the straight. He fell in against Big Ted and the only thing prior to that was a maiden win at Pinjarra. If he was wearing almost anyone else's colours he wouldn't even rate a mention. Only question in my mind is that in the worst presented WA Listed race of the season, this horse will probably fall over the line if everything goes his way. But he is nothing special.

I will take a length or so off Trusting as pretty good form for a race like this. I don't think he is anything particularly special either. Just an absolute special in this race. There isn't a horse in the Kingston Town who couldn't win this race and his was the best, if not one of the best, runs in the race.

The horses that finished around him, and behind him, are a who's who of WA racing. And he doesn't have to beat much.

I have loaded up already so I will take him falling in no problem.

Ranger will be hard to beat but the only certainty in the race is that he will be under the odds. He started $2.70 in the same race last year and finished 4th of 6 beating home two 100-1 pops lol

Comments made on a local WA forum would indicate that this horse is the one to beat in the Perth Cup. He ran 35.07 yesterday for his closing 600M, and as it is the first time in this campaign that he has raced past 2000M, it indicates to me that he can't run out a fast trip. In the recent Towton Cup over 2200M, four horses ran sub 35 secs, with Guyno equalling the 35.07 time as well. In the Tattersall's Cup over 2100M, the entire field ran a faster closing 600M than Ranger did yesterday.

So in my opinion, this horse is outclassed at this stage. Nothing shown to date warrants any short price in the Perth Cup.

Relying solely on times is a short way to the poor house imho  stop let alone the mad house  wacko

So many different factors come into play.

Sadly I won't be in town for this race, as I have friends likely to have a runner involved. Doubt I will even have a bet on the race at all.

What bemuses me about Ranger, is that had he won the RJ Peters, which he didn't, he would have been thrown into the Railway Stakes by some as a contender. Now all of a sudden he is going to win a Perth Cup ? Either we have no depth at all in WA Racing, or this horse is the next Horse of the Year.

Interested in your thoughts after yesterday Pickle, considering the emphasis you place on times  chin
