I was just reading a article about the fear of Qld horses going over the border to chase the better prizemoney.
I cannot see how that can be a worry for the average stay at home punter.

Sure it affects the people in the industry but maybe other stay at home punters probably are like me and worry about number one first.

Wondering if there are others in the same boat as myself and think that as long as we can have our bets everything is OK.

I'm only a small punter and last year turned over nearly $15,000 for the year and I admit that is nothing compared to the average punter that bets on a regular basis.

Maybe the behind the scenes stuff can make a difference to people like the Stay At Home Punter but I just cannot see it.

Grats - it's like the doomsdayers who whinge about BF and the corps, to be honest I'd say the majority of stay at homes couldn't careless as long as they got the best deal / price.

btw - I hadn't added up my turnover until you mentioned it. I turned over $23,527.31 (win / place) and the most of my bets are in the $10 to $40 range, hardly earthshattering but it does add up.

Yes mate, it doesn't take long to turn over a large amount.
You just have to get on a roll and it soon builds up.

Turnover is only for working out your % for proft/loss.
It really doesn't reflect how much you bet of your own $ bank.

For example,
If you started with $1000 in your account on Jan 1.
Hypothetically, you bet $100 each week & got back $95 each week. Your turnover would be $5200.
$5200 on for $4940 return = loss of $260 & loss of 5%.
Your account at Dec 31 would be $740.

EZ -

How much of that $5200 turnover would have gone to the racing industry if that all went through the tote ?

Authorised,

You have hit the nail smack bang on the head my friend.  If the punter continues to think about numero uno 100% of the time, it will be  rip for certain race clubs.

They get 3 cents per ticket or something - a bit like selling a newspaper.

My mate had one - he informs me its on each ticket.  Hence the owner behind the window wants punters not turnover.  The TAB itself wants turnover.

So if you walk up and have $1 the win and it wins, the TAB owner gets 3 cents.  If it loses, the TAB owner gets 3 cents.  If you know your local owner, ask em and let us all know in case it has changed but just like newsagencies, they are now a hard earn.

But you would think the clubs with races worth betting on would have no problems surviving.

Really? If it was per ticket, why wouldn't the owner get his mates to do 200x 50c tickets rather than $100 bets? And you still only fill out one ticket, just keep putting it through. I would be pretty surprised if it is per ticket and not a %. That is a crazy deal if it is.

You could make $6 from a $100 bet rather than 3c. I reckon some owners would have some significant schemes if they only had to up the number of tickets through the machine
