Couple of not happy Jan stories arising out of Sydney at the weekend.

First out of the blocks was Richie's dad Kenny who if he wasn't scared of being sued would/might have named the race and riders at Canterbury which he described as a "stew"

Gerald Ryan didn't mince words describing Steve Arnold's ride on Godspeed as disgraceful.......a lot of punters would agree. rant

"In one of the most extraordinary public outbursts in living memory, trainer Gerald Ryan labelled Steven Arnold’s ride on two year old Godspeed in the first race at Rosehill on Saturday “disgraceful”, saying that the Cox Plate winning rider “showed no initiative”. Ryan further intimated that Arnold may have ridden the horse to lose, saying that “I can’t believe questions haven’t been asked” by stewards."        from justracing's Melbourne report.

Gerald had a first starter in Sydney a few weeks ago that was "most unlucky".
Not sure what the stewards made of that- doesn't really matter.
Nothing stewards can do anyway

you could not by any stretch of the imagination call Godspeed "unlucky" if a Jockey wanted to hook it he would do exactly what Arnold did,  personally I just think it was incompetence on the postilion's part

Onya Jim,

Yes---Lets blame the jockey---so the owners that paid nearly $2 Mill--want some answers---the trainers says "not my fcken fault"---the jockey fck up----well I say not--the horse is not a sprint 2yo---it is the trainers fault if the horse does not win. Where in the hell do you blame Arnold ???

I think the point being, he failed to ride to instructions.

Didn't Ryan tell him to get him going at the half mile, and Arnold waited until the 200m ?

Mate he was asleep, pure and simple, he will win by a space at his next start, with a 4kg apprentice on him he couldn't be ridden any worse!!
You reckon you shouldn't blame the jockey when he gives away a 100 yards in a  2 year old race and as soon as he asked the horse to improve he made up many lengths but just couldn't bridge the impossible gap he was asked to, no other 2 year old going around could have got any where near as close as Godspeed did, Luskin Star would have struggled to give away that much ground and still win
Godspeed is a very high class 2 year old and will prove it next time he races, he was beaten by a 3rd rate horse because of a 3rd rate ride by a 3rd rate jockey, I said it before the race not after,
Arnold is grossly over rated, tell me when he has ever used any initiative? He doesn't win on anything that is not a class above the opposition or gets a lot of luck in running, tell me a horse he has ever led on?? every other top Jockey at some time in his career has taken the initiative and gone to the front, Arnold waits for the opposition to come back to him, the thing that gets me is he is he has taken over Dittmans title of the Teflon kid, doesn't matter what he does no one ever blames him, it is always the horses fault, even now all the stupid punters are blaming the horse and trainer, why??

If you really are being objective tell me when he has ever ridden a bad race?? I am sure you can find bad rides for Dye/Beadman/Miracle Mal etc tell me where Dittman or Arnold have ever ridden a bad race? or are they really made with a Teflon coating??
