Canberra racing on Sunday: an absolute amateur hour or what?

For a race club fighting for relevance, and even survival, the race outcomes on Sunday, the premier race day for the ACT, were indicative of all the reasons why no one in their right mind would have anything to do with it.

Proclaimed as  a perfect good-3 racing surface, the race results, the times for the races, as well as the explanations for woeful performances, were consistent with a significantly rain affected (or worn out ) track.

If 1.09 is about average for 1200 on a good-3 track , and 1.22 for 1400, why were the overall times more like 1.12 and 1.24  -- and most final sectionals were in excess of 36 seconds when 34s would be expected with a good 3 track.

Across 6 of the 8 races, the average F4 dividend was well in excess of $2000 --consistent with TAB punters having no chamce of of success.

Is anyone held accountable for this?

I guess not -- all the more reason, as suggested above,  to sell the ACT facilities -- and the ACT TAB -- to someone able to run them properly.

The ACTs biggest day in the year when they are on the mat for irrelevance -- and the club itself votes 'yes'.

Didnt look that hard for punters to win to me.

3 favourites won, the first of which was 9/4 to 6/4 and the 2nd was 9/4 to 7/4 the last one was $3.50 throughout betting. Then there was  two $6 chances one of which was trained by Bart and had 3 trials which was a free tip in itself because he never does that. Finally there was $12  hope and a $15 chance who started 3rd fav in the Black Opal.

Only 2 horses all day  on the NSW TAB paid more than $3.50 a place so the decent first 4's were due to good field sizes.

Hardly a wipeout for punters and as usual you are wrong.
