Please spare me a minute, believe me I know long posts are pains in the cushion between the chair and your skeleton but you are the people that are closest to many of the key players that this post is targeted at.

Nomination forms are now available for the 2007 RVL/AFISC Thoroughbred Employee of the Year awards.

Nom forms are now available on the Racing Victoria website. The direct link to find the forms is
http://www1.racingvictoria.net.au/images/stories/pdf/forms/Thoroughbred%20Employee%20Awards%20Nominations%20Form.pdf

Hmmmnnn I’ve had a think and cos I like you, so I’ve made an executive decision and feel dot point is the way to go….lucky you.

If you know a Victorian* racehorse trainer, breeder or owner could you please pass on this message on.

(*These are only Vic awards this year but if all goes well….2008 Australia wide will be our goal. This is only the second running of the Racing Victoria / Agri-Foods Industry Skills Councils -Thoroughbred Employee of the Year” awards. 2008 awards will be National}.

Surely they know someone who has excelled assisting and looking after their horse or horses either as a stable employee, trackwork rider, stud hand or raceday strapper. They should be reliable, competent, dedicated, keen to advance, honest and proud of what they do.

These dedicated workers are the best kept secret in racing. They hold knowledge and skills that can transfer so fluently between the breeding and racing sectors. They are the eyes and ears of the trainer, and the voice of the horses in their care. They are long time participants, full time or weekend workers, before or after school workers, the Sunday feeder, but as individuals they are reliable as heck. They are multi skilled and the pulse of our industry.

Last year we had 6 very worthy winners. By acknowledging their contribution we can lift the profile of their work and hopefully encourage new one’s to look at our industry, and see a career.

Every person who is nominated will receive a certificate stating they were nominated as the 2007 Thoroughbred Employee of the Year. This could be the first page in some of their resumes. It can be a one horse stable or a large workplace, the work is the same. Registered trainers, breeders or owners can nominate someone for the following categories:
-Full Time Employee (35 hrs per week plus)
-Part time Employee (less than 35 hrs)
-New Employee (less than 6 months)
-Thoroughbred Trackwork Rider
-Stud Hand (either full or part time)
-Thoroughbred Stallion Handler (either full or part time) {new category}

The final presentations will take place on April 4th 2008 at the Moonee Valley night meeting.

If you have trouble finding the nom form feel free to email me g.gauci@racingvictoria.net.au and I’ll make sure you get one in your hand quick smart.

Please support these valuable workers by saying “Thankyou” and let them know their hard work has not been taken for granted.

Is this getting much publicity?  Have you put it in racing papers?

Get Winning Post to write up a story about the awards and previous recipients to whet the appetites.  I would imagine it would be a boon to any stable to have a nominee and/or winner in their team.  After all, they are just as important as the jockey.  Well, that's my opinion.
