I have a diary where I write down all my bets and also have a set of spreadsheets for all my betting and for each particular bet type.  Do a review at the end of each season (i.e. 31 July) and see where I can improve, which types are making me money and which types are losing.

i.e. I learned from trying to bet EPL and NFL this last season that I am no good at it so have given it away.
