Played golf today but before I left had a small EW bet on Gold In Dubai MR 5........unfortunately for me no fixed odds were up on this race by the time I had to leave home.

Betfair was the only option so that's what I took $36 win and SP the place.

Horse ran a great race leading to the last 100m or so and comfortably held third.

When I got home I checked Betfair results........place was shown as $18........and in another section $14 odd.

They paid me $9.21..........worse than any of the totes.

To add insult to injury UNiTAB fixed odds finished at $101win and $23 place.  rant

Why didn't you put up your own price and select the take SP at the jump if still unmatched option  what

Or similar have an account with say Luxbet who will bet you BOB if you bet early, you would have been paid at the $23 if that was the highest

Betfair Clerk: Some bloke backed Gold in Dubai at $36 the win and SP the place.
Betfair Bookie: But there is no such thing as SP the place.
Betfair Clerk: We just worked that out. What will we pay him?
Betfair Bookie: Just make something up.
Betfair Clerk: OK.
Betfair Bookie: But make sure you pay him less than any of the totes. Will send him a message. We don't want any smarties betting here.

Yeah, that's what I thought -

You must have taken the price you were paid as there was no SP Place option on that event.

That's what I did.....took $36 win asked for $10 place no takers so didn't cancel and took the SP option.
$23 on UNi was fixed odds not paramutual best tote was 11.40 I think.
Waiting to see the reason.
Still better to back a winner a bit unders than a longer priced loser thumbsup

Don't understand your gripe then Arsenal  chin

You asked for $10, it wasn't matched and you were put onto the highest price at the jump, where's the problem  what

You need to remember BF don't have control of the market, it's supply and demand.

That's the way Arsey boy.

Whenever I've taken unders for one reason or another, I say to myself well I'll get angry about that if and only if it wins biggrin

It seems pretty obvious that your $10 was matched and you were paid $9.21 after the deduction for the late scratching.

You could be right.....I'm not  familar with SP on Betfair........ only took it out of necessity .

I have found their SP rules to be very complex.

Waiting for the reply to my query to clarify things. thumbsup

Betfair response to my queries...................prompt reply too. Thumb Up

Thank you for your e-mail.
Our Rules and Regulations are contained in the below link.  For Horse Racing, please go to Part C, number 13:

http://www.betfair.com/www/betfair/AUS_NZL/en/aboutUs/Rules.and.Regulations/#undefined.do

You have requested odds of 10 when submitting your bet on 7.Gold In Dubai in the Place market.  The bet was matched at the odds requested, however the reason that the odds on this bet have been reduced is due to a non runner being declared after your bet was matched.

In this case the non runner was 9. Miles Above which carried a reduction factor of 8.8%. These reduction factors can be found within the information box by each selection to give you an indication of what kind of percentage will be deducted in the event of it's withdrawal. They are betfair's equivalent to a bookmakers Rule 4 and are in place to protect our layers in the eventuality that the price matched does not reflect the smaller field.

A non runner explanation in reference to Horse Racing can be found with in the Rules and Regulations in the link I provided you.

In regards to the price of 18 you see on the Racing Form page, this is the price that was last matched before the jump.  The WAP refers to the average price Gold in Dubai traded at whilst the market was active.  These do not indicate the price you receive for your bet.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like further assistance.

Kind regards

Adrian Box

Yesterday I received a call from one of their staff Mark.

He explained that SP is only available for WIN bets, there is no option to take SP for the place.

He said the section in the Form and results is or has been changed.

Had my place bet not been matched the stake would have been returned.

Had I asked for say $15,as it turned out I would have had that matched.

In this case $18 was the last price traded ,had I been home in time that's what I could have got.

The other figure $14.57 is the average price traded.

I wasn't the only one on it either almost $700 invested on him for a place.

That's cleared it up to my satisfaction. thumbsup
