Primus to Chatswood Stud

Chatswood Stud

Victoria’s Chatswood Stud and Iskander Racing have announced that the Group winning and multiple Gr.1 performed stallion Primus will serve at the Victorian stud this season, after he was retired due to an injury which halted a Gr.1 Stradbroke Handicap campaign.

The lightly raced son of sire sensation Flying Spur is from the famed Denise’s Joy family, which is now an emerging sire producing family.

Managing Director Greg Willis commented; ‘We at Chatswood are thrilled to have such a talented and attractive son of Flying Spur to offer breeders. After all, we kicked off Primus’ sire’s career off, so this bloodline is very close to our hearts. With his sire becoming nearly inaccessible to most breeders, due to the fee at which his brilliant success commands, we thought that Primus would offer the next best alternative to his sire. He was top class, had a great turn of foot and offers that speed crossed with his staying pedigree. It’s a wonderful opportunity for breeders right around Australia, not just Victoria.”

Primus’ trainer John O’Shea commented ‘He is an amazing type, with a great turn of foot.  He's also a very sound horse, and most importantly for him, he has got an imposing pedigree. The three things that make a young stallion are performance, type, and pedigree.  He meets all of those criteria. He has displayed group one ability throughout his career.

Managing Owner Sheriff Iskander stated; "Primus was always a horse of Group 1 ability and with his good looks, female line and being by the sire of the moment in Flying Spur, his future career as a stallion looks very bright. We're delighted to remain involved with this next exciting chapter and are convinced that he will get every possible opportunity at Chatswood Stud".

Primus will arrive at Chatswood Stud next week and be available for inspection.

He will commence his career at stud for $11,000 (GST-inclusive). There will also be a limited number of lifetime shares on offer.

Standing at the same stud his dad started at, nice and poetic that.

Just shy of being a top class but thats why he stands in Vic not NSW, he will get strong support from the stud and its clients so is every chance of making it.

If only at this level

Good grief!!  You really have to wonder at Coolmore and their arrogance over the frivolous price they are reported as paying for Haradasun.

Frivolous in the sense that it will take a long, long time to recoup that outlay, if ever.

Maybe we could start a competition to see which member comes closest to naming his first year service fee.  :smiley

would think round the 40 - 50k mark

these days if you get Darley & Coolmore fighting over something you can hit the jackpot

I'm sure the boys at Coolmore are happy with their investment at this stage. There's a chance the horse will end up in Kentucky rather than Ireland. Service fee? Let's wait until he retires. The possible price range is vast.

With his issues, hardly worth that sort of money.

Arrowfield Stud

Arrowfield Stud reports that less than 3 weeks after Alinghi delivered a filly by Hussonet at Arrowfield Stud, Sunline has also produced a Hussonet filly which arrived at 5am last Friday morning at Waikato Stud in New Zealand.

Trevor and Stephen McKee are both delighted with the arrival of Sunline’s latest foal. “When Redoute’s Choice could not cover Sunline last season, we decided to switch to Hussonet and we could not be happier with the result,” said Trevor McKee.

“She [Sunline] has had a very lovely healthy foal and she is a bay with no markings just like her mother,” added Stephen McKee.

Sunline was one of the great racing mares in Australasian racing history. She raced 48 times for 32 wins, 9 seconds and 3 thirds, amassing $11,351,607 in earnings making her the world’s second highest earning female racehorse behind Makybe Diva. Sunline won races in three countries: Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong. She won back-to-back W.S. Cox Plates as well as twice winning Australia’s toughest mile race, the Doncaster Handicap.

She was crowned Australian Horse of the Year three times in a row, and New Zealand Horse of the Year four times in a row.

Sunline’s Hussonet filly is her fourth foal with the Champion mare having produced two fillies by Rock of Gibraltar and a colt by Zabeel. The Zabeel colt sold for $2million at the New Zealand Premier Yearling Sale earlier this year and is due to trial in a couple weeks, advised his trainer Trevor McKee.

A little trick for you Kool, in the dropdown menu above all the font colours (Link Inline Image..) you have different options to display your pics, when you select one of the options replace the "#" with a "1" and it can display your pics in full size or thumbnail view, just go back and modify your Posts display them  wink
