usually in oz with the exception of specialized re-sellers i.e the nolens from vic and now bc3,oakwood and k.thomas/washpool....the stock are the rejects/non-sales/ repos from all other sales....doesnt mean they dont go good just proceed with caution/buyer beware....as a old teacher said do your homework boy

Thanks Ted ,I'd expect that to be the case with some of them,but like the sales it's always buyer beware.

there are several who do it very well Mono, even I have had a little dip at it

TVN's Karaka sales preview last night had some terrific types parading

Darcy Brahma's looked good  to me and  plenty of others to choose from if you've got the cash.

Sir Patrick Hogan is quoted to have said his draft at the 2010 Karaka sale are the "best types " he has presented in a decade. Nothing like a bit of self promotion to get things rolling.  

TVN gave a good  live cover to the early Karaka sales today.

First of the 48 Darci Brahmas offered  a top looking colt  went for 130,000NZ

Saw Williams Jr. pay 500KNZ for a Encosta filly nice type too.

The 2010 Australasian record price for a yearling has been smashed on Tuesday at Karaka.

NSW-based bloodstock agent James Bester paid $NZ 2 million for a colt from Sir Patrick Hogan’s Cambridge Stud by champion stallion Zabeel out of the stakes winning Danehill mare Diamond Like.

Diamond Like is a daughter of the great racemare and producer Tristalove making the colt’s dam a full sister to Group I performers Viking Ruler and Kempinsky as well as a three quarter sister to Group I-placed Lovetrista.

“He is the best yearling I’ve ever seen, period,” James Bester said.

‘An extremely classy, high quality and well balanced, athletic Zabeel out of a fast sprinter/miler by Danehill.

The dam is out of an exceptional mare, Tristalove that comes from the best southern hemisphere family ever.”

Bester said he regarded the colt as “the best yearling” he’d ever seen at a southern hemisphere sale and after a spirited bidding duel, he outpointed one of the world’s biggest agents.

“Unfortunately Demi O’Byrne representing Coolmore also had a very high opinion of the colt,” Bester said.

The renowned bloodstock agent wouldn’t divulge the identity of the colt’s new owners, and whilst a trainer is still to be decided, Bester confirmed the horse will race in Australia.

The sale price of $NZ 2 million crushed Monday’s top price for an Australasian yearling in 2010 when a Singapore buyer went to $NZ 1 million to secure a colt by Fastnet Rock out of former topline kiwi galloper Popsy.

Cups King spends up at Karaka

BART Cummings has spent up big on the opening day of the Karaka Premier Yearling sale in New Zealand.

Two years ago the master trainer and his long-time client combined to select Cox Plate winner So You Think from the same parade ring for $110,000.

Yesterday Dato Tan Chin Nam shelled out $575,000 for a colt with a pedigree that appears built for the Melbourne Cup.

By champion sire Zabeel out of Markisa, the colt is descended from the outstanding Eight Carat family which has produced horses such as Octagonal, Don Eduardo, Tristalove, Viscount, Kaapstad and Danewin.

Cummings also signed for three yearlings himself for a combined value of $670,000 while Duncan Ramage, Dato Tan's racing manager, purchased another two colts at a cost of $470,000 who will be prepared by Cummings.

Karaka has been a proven source for Cummings, with Group One winners Roman Emperor and Allez Wonder bought from across the Tasman in recent years.

Gai Waterhouse was another Sydney trainer active at the sales, snapping up four yearlings with her highest price lot being a $650,000 Pins filly.

Racing's leading lady has never managed to win a Melbourne Cup, but is keen to add some staying power to her stable.

"A lot of the stables have been wanting to show me their yearlings by [Australian-based sires] Encosta De Lago and Fastnet Rock," she said.

"But I told them I've come here to buy horses for Derbys, Oaks and Cups, and usually most horses that win those races past 2400m have the NZ suffix."

Leading Melbourne trainer Peter Moody purchased nine yearlings with the most expensive being a $260,000 Encosta De Lago colt.

The first $1 million yearling of the season was sold yesterday with Singapore-based owner Jayven See coming out on top of a hotly contested bidding dual for the Fastnet Rock colt out of former top race mare Popsy.
