Have run 8 challenges to date, and 6 have been successful, i.e. we ended up with more than we started with.

We have some carryover from the last series, and with top-ups, and Geoff's Place Strike Rate Prize from the Punting Comp, we have a STARTING BANK of $850 (17 shares @ $50)

Staking plan will be similar to previous Challenges.   There will be a series of 10 bets with a base unit of $5 each/per share.

Bets will be PLACE ONLY and will usually be on a Wednesday or Saturday on Brisbane races. I pick the horses, and reserve to right to back more than one horse.

1. For the first 5 bets (#1 to #5), any return from the bet is distributed evenly among the remaining bets, thus increasing the base stake beyond $5.  Say bet #2 gives a return of $16, we add $2 to the stake for each of the remaining 8 bets.

2. For bets #6 to #9, should they be successful we RETAIN THE STAKE, but distribute the PROFITS evenly among the remaining bet/s.

3. Obviously for bet #10 we keep any return.

Hopefully we'll end up with a share value of more than $50.  But there's a risk that I will lose a bit, or lose the LOT.

I'll post the bets on this thread, and keep a running sheet.

Bet #1 $85 - 14.05.11 RETURN =  $0 BANK = $765
Bet #2 $85 - 21.05.11 RETURN = $144 BANK = $824
Bet #3 $103 - 28.05.11 RETURN = $75 BANK = $796
Bet #4 $114 - 01.06.11 RETURN = $230 BANK = $912
Bet #5 $153 - 04.06.11 RETURN = $158 BANK = $917
Bet #6 $185 - 11.06.11 RETURN = $297 BANK =  $844   [SAFE = $185]
Bet #7 $212 - 13.06.11 RETURN = $170 BANK = $632   [SAFE = $355]
Bet #8 $212 - 15.06.11 RETURN = $79 BANK = $420 [SAFE = $434]
Bet #9 $210 - 18.06.11 RETURN = $350 BANK = $350[SAFE = $644]
Bet #10 $350 - 02.07.11 RETURN = $345 BANK = $0
[SAFE = $989]

SHAKEOUT

The share value ended up at $58, giving a return of 16% on the investment.

During the course of the 10 bets we outlayed $1709 for a return of $1848, or a POT of 8%.

Was a rocky road, but we survived the drive.

This comp remind me of a football team.

With a football team there are 17-22 players with one head coach.

During a game and a season the head coach praises the players when they are going well, and gives them a razz when they underperform.

And the players appreciate that.

And he won't take "Oh, I nearly kicked the goal" or ""Oh, I nearly made the tackle" as an excuse.

With this comp we have one player and 17 coaches.

It behoves all the coaches to praise the player when he does well, and to give him a razz when he underperforms.

The player will appreciate that.

And we shouldn't take "Oh, look at all those fourths" or " We'll have worse daze" as excuses or airy-fairy promises for the future.

So JWH,

Are you suggesting we need an emoticon with 17 boots kicking one ass?

Well done DoubleDee. Thumb Up

Seems this newly initiated coaching regime is already bearing fruit.

However with one losing bet there is still room for improvement. But one must learn to walk before one runs and there is still plenty of time left to achieve fulfilment.

No question, Jeff.  The coaching I'm getting is most helpful.

I know Rob Heathcote shudders when I back one of his.

I see where the Heathcote Groupie list is growing in statue by the day.

Plenty jumping on his bandwagon now but where were they when he started off?

Oh, there's not gonna be a STATUE of him is there?

Will that be where all the groupies assemble each Sunday morn and pay homage? lol
