I think it important to openly discuss this topic and use it as feed back for the organisers of the website.

My personal view is that any person wishing to enter a competition whether on the Forum or via the Forum must use their nic / identity as per the Forum.  Apart from the most obvious reasons namely, "who are you and are you actually eligible" it is paramount that the organisors of the Forum are seen to be credible.

It is always difficult to run a Forum such as this on the internet and people will abuse every system they can when it comes to winning a prize and obtaining sponsorship is very difficult.  The fact that Tabcorp continue to support the Forum is evidence that our organisors are doing a great job, but it is still the case that we should support them with some honesty.

The only other point I raise on this, at this stage, until discussions get underway is that any prize must be paid into an account that matches the information provided to the organisers and in that regard I have absolute faith in our team at the helm.

Your thoughts and feedback team are:-

If they are FREE comps then I guess it doesn't matter. Most people use their normal nics anyway. Why would they not if they are entering a comp?

Paid comps are a bit different though. You will find that people will only enter if they recognise the person/nic that is running the comp & if the comp is relatively small outlay.

From my time on this forum I have only seen one instance of a person running a comp doing the wrong thing. (OL with 2009 Melb Cup Calcutta) He was a regular contributor & it was sad to see it happen.

No one likes comps more than I do and I've only ever had trouble with the one bloke.

He isn't here anymore and I have no hesitation entering a comp with most of the others on here that I know.

I'd run more comps but the difficult part is the transfer of money.  Maybe it isn't so much difficult but a lot of people just cannot be bothered in going to a bank to do the transfer.  Then again they might not have the spare time to do it.

I ran one on another forum where you just had to put $10 into a envelope and post it to me to enter and that worked.   Only 25 members on that forum and I had ten players.

Did something the same on here and got two. what biggrin

I reckon that comp that El Zoro is currently doing is good fun.  Thats the NRL one.
Then again there aren't that many players considering the size of this forum.

Maybe Larsen spoilt comps on this site.

I tend to disagree Grats and I believe that Wily is quite justified in what he says.   I would be surprised if there is not a lot of other people that think the same way.  I also think that it is not too much to take the time and register in a matter that is not ambigious or open to discussion.

I also find it hard to buy into free comps as justifictaion also.  If as a group we abuse the generosity of sponsors or for that matter any person who injects a prize, it will come at a cost.  The cost being we will get no return in the future.  So nothing is free IMO.

Hey!. Where were you guys before the comps started.

You may recall that we did tighten up the eligibility before this round of footy comps started in amongst other discussion.

Next relevant comp* we will insist on nics being used as aliases/stable names, and a pre-registration thread where you must post that you are entering.

I don't know about the 200 posts however. Geez. Some should be disallowed because they talk too much  lol

* Doesn't apply to the Tabcorp Tipping Comp because you have to post your tips anyway.

No I know you have mate. You have been a great supporter of these comps  Thumb Up

With the Tabcorp tipping comp, because you have to actually post your tips, there is no need to "use your nic" in a team name or stable name.

What's the reason for this thread?

look at the emergence of beepa from the clouds in the tab sponsored  AFL and NRL tipping threads.

The persons first 2 posts since joining last year were yesterday claiming the leading nic in both comps under different names in both comps and neither of which match his forum name or alias listed.
