At Canberra greyhounds race 10 last night the box 6 dog was given the 5 rug and despite being checked by the ear brand steward , observed by the steward in control and the starting box official the dog was allowed to run in the wrong rug and after running 2nd was disqualified , meaning anyone who had backed it for a place or in exotics did there money cold on a winning bet.

Why the dog was not declared a non runner I dont know.

Also as TRIMTEX  was disqualified the odds on fav. was elevated from 3rd to 2nd in a 2 divi race which no doubt pleased all the $1.04 backers.

Surely the trainer knew which rug they put on? which means another dog was in the wrong box / rug also?

I don't think they can declare a non runner in the greyhounds, it would have to be declared a no race.

No Gin the 5 box was vacant  and there were only 5 starters. I am sure the stewards actions will be examined by the control board but the dog was deemed a starter.

Rico - everytime I've ever boxed a dog it's the trainer who selects which rug to put on (Small / Med / Large)

Still it's should have been picked up prior to starting.

Pretty sure they can - they used to when dogs got caught in the boxes, I think they can also declare non runners in the case of outside interference etc.

Why would they? Easier to stick their head in the sand & then sweep it under the carpet.
