A competitor to Betfair is clearly needed, but for some reason BETDAQ has so far failed to make an impact.

This latest news about BETDAQ pulling the plug on Australia is not helping the cause.

Why can't it simply quickly get an Australian licence from Norfolk Island!

Why don't the Tab's?
More than 1 exchange is sorely needed.

Tabcorp et al are just not in the right mindset to exploit such an opportunity. But don't get me started.

However there is a very obvious solution.

None of us could possibly want that insane wallet set up that Betfair inflicts upon us, so having all the computers in the Antipodes is fine.

BETDAQ could get a licence in Norfolk Island virtually immediately.

And it could use a service company on the island to handle the local issues. Essentially client deposits/withdrawals, legislation nightmares and timezone afflictions. It makes far more sense to enter results in civilised hours here, rather than disrupt someone's Circadian rhythms in Ireland, Gibraltar, Malta, Belarus whatever.

The costs should be the same as doing it over there.

Mike King essentially did that and more with Austote before Mark Read pulled his trademark sabotage stunt. So I'm sure his arm could be twisted.

Wondered what happened to Austote.
There is definitely room for a new Exchange IMHO.

Any competition via an exchange would be warmly welcome against Betfair.

Hopefully Betdaq get the licence so PC payers in Australia have a choice.

Curious situation in the US PGA golf market.

BETDAQ market has typically bettered Betfair.

And there is a significant anomaly with the favourite Rory McIlroy.

For around 8 hours he's $12 on BETDAQ versus Betfair's $11.50!

The Betfair trolls have been trolling extensively to distort this latest scam, but it's really black and white.

Anyone with a BETDAQ account in addition to Betfair, will clearly only be backing Rory at BETDAQ.

It's the straw that might break Betfair's back.

Yes - so what?

I mainly Lay but there obviously must be someone out there who Backs.

And if they have a BETDAQ account that's where their Backs will be consumated.

No one bar trolls care where the winners hang out, it's the price that rules.

There is no competitor to Betfair -- for punters, it is the single best thing to happen to racing in Australia, and globally.

Saints preserve us.

Why do you insist on parading your abject ignorance of just about all things racing/betting?

It's more flagrant than most of the floats in the mardi gras.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/retailandconsumer/9001235/Ladbrokes-in-talks-with-billionaire-Betdaq-owner-Dermot-Desmond-over-technology-deal.html

Hopefully a promising move.

Whether they merge or Ladbrokes takes on some Exchange capabilities by itself, some Betfair competition may ensue.

I can't believe that anyone wants a competitor for Betfair, the only drawback with Betfair that I can see is liquidity, why would you want to split that?? lol   lol

Everyone should want a competitor to Betfair.

It has abused its effective monopoly position by obscene extra charges on successful punters.

Sounds like you ain't one of them.

Agree with JFC. I'm bailing on Betfair due to excessive charges. I'd suffer less liquidity in the short term to stick it up Betfair. The way Betfair is going, they'll be the ones with the liquidity problem.
