Bart Sinclair has reported that BRC and RQL have sent a submission to the Pattern Committee advising of their plans for the Qld Guineas.

Traditionally run for 3YOs over 1600m on Stradbroke Day, the proposal is to shift it back to Oaks Day, and reduce the distance to 1400m.  The race would be likely to get a prizemoney boost.  An attraction for the best 3YOs is that it will carry an exemption from the Stradbroke ballot.

This year, Sincero would almost certainly have run in it.

Assuming that the change is accepted, the Guineas will be a logical flow-on from earlier 3YO events in Qld (Mick Dittman, GC Guineas, Fred Best) and NSW (Gosford Guineas, Hawkesbury Guineas, Scone Guineas).  In addition to the Stradbroke, the Daybreak Lover is an option on the Final Day.

A favourite race of mine of which I thought had found its place and was being targeted by the late coming 3yo now rather than as a lead up to the Derby.

Another 1400m 3yo race doesn't appeal at first mention and they seem to make the Stradbroke without exemption.

I assume it is about protecting its status with the current format for assessment by the pattern committee.

personally i think a very good idea , just didn't fit on stradbroke day , where a good one targets the gp1, fits in well as a stradbroke exept race and let's face it - there is more competition in the 1400m races than 3yo's at a mile
