The no-go between: the shortest distance betwen two points is straight -- not back and around

This cannot go on.

The race reports from Newcastle today included:

RACE 6: ............. if there was an unlucky runner it was the third placegetter Ambidexter............(he) was unable to secure a clear run until hooking around Rekindled Alliance’s heels nearing the 100m and he did manage to take ground from the first two but by that time the bird had flown.

[Ambidexter, which was inclined to lay in, was eased away from the heels of Darcy Be Good near the 200m and shifted to the outside of Rekindled Alliance to continue into clear running.]

RACE 7: The race was run at a solid tempo with Neeson up front making every post a winner.Raspberries had a soft run back off the speed ........Kerrin was adamant he was going to get her to the outside to give her plenty of room and he probably lost a bit of ground getting her to the outside.

Something to do with fitting better with the Sydney program chin

It was a close run thing G -- it seems C Munce did not come down for 'one ride' for fun

++ I was dirty having taken 5's when 8's were available on Betfair close to the jump -- it seems that others were thinking that barrier-2 was not the best draw for someone needing to go wide.

Why does the Saturday program of first class Tier 1 racing conclude with:

Race 8 - JIM BEAM (BM80) - 1200m Benchmark 80. Handicap. 3yo+. Apprentices Can Claim.

This is dirty pool -- the last leg of the Quadrella and Big6 is a race unlikely to run true to form and, presumably, scheduled to 'boost' the pool for these 'exotics'.

This is a grubby marketing grab for a quick quid when the future of the industry depends on building the respect of punter that Tabcorp and RacingNSW will do the right thing.
