Why isnt Canterbury park racecourse used for satuday meetings?

Its next to a train station (two train lines actually, canterbury and ashfield, and from ashfield its either a 15 minute walk or a 5 minute bus ride). Unlike Randwick, which is impossible to get to from the inner west.
I know the west has warick farm and rosehill, but even Gai Waterhouse said on her blog that Canterbury was the best track in Sydney.

Alot of people my age (18-25, basically the people who we want to come to the races) live around there, as do young families. Mid-week, everyone is at school or work.
The night meeting proves that people will come. Me and my friends (who dont follow racing) all went down for a night out. Sadly no one wanted to pay $10 a beer ontop of the entry fee.

Is there any reason it is not used for Metro meetings on Saturdays?

Turnover.

Apparently punters have an aversion to punting at Warwick Farm and Canterbury on Saturdays.

Loved the Canterbury Guineas, especially the 2001 version when the Prince killed em.

Is it really only a 15 minute walk from Ashfield station, or is just the fact you are running for your life to get the hell out of the suburbs surrounding there???

That's harsh Chalky - Ashfield isn't much I'll grant you, but thenother neighbouring suburbs like Summer Hill and Croydon Park are really nice areas! It's a fair walk from Ashfield, but an easy stroll from Canterbury station.

To the topic at hand, as long as the rail is true Canterbury is a good course and a fair one, and hopefully people turn up for the handful of Saturday meetings it gets over summer while Randwick is shutdown. Certainly most winters Sydney would be in all sorts without it, cops plenty of racing and takes it remarkably well.

Was only stirring mate, lived 7 years in Dulwich Hill and Marrickville (99-06) and loved it!

I was more making the point it would be a fair walk from Ashfield, not sure 15 minutes would get you there....
