It has been talked of many times before and although I'm a fan of form rather than systems I wanted to see what the return would be if you backed horses that were 60kgs+ in a claiming race yet kept a senior jockey aboard. Horses will be hypothetically backed @ $1 each way using Unitab prices. I will only be monitoring weekend meetings covered by Unitab. Selections: 5 Winners: 0 Placings: 3 Out: $10.00 In: $8.80 Standing: -$1.20

Don't know if you are only after metro or not Chalky but today there were 7 qualifiers for 1 winner, Wagga R6 H2 MY DEAR FREIND. Paying $11.10 best tote and Top Fluc of $7.00. Not too shabby.

Happy to see any mate that come up, but due to time restrictions i will only be tracking the Saturday metro qualifiers. If others want to post midweek runners please do!

Decided to include Sundays as well because; 1. It improves the figures today and 2. I usually have the time after work to monitor the qualifiers...... One today: Queanbeyan Race 7 #2 Fiftyseven Chevy- L Maloney 60kgs 2nd $4.70 (+$3.70)

Probably wouldnt have bothered if it didnt ...but i was also thinking there will surely be more qualifiers away from the city tracks. I will keep and eye out midweek when i can, although ony weekend results will be recorded......probably.

I agree with the idea in general, I would rarely back a high weighted horse with an apprentice on, balance is even more important on high weighted horses than it is on more lighter weighted ones, talking about the horses Balance not the riders, a lot of apprentices do not have the timing or patience to allow a horse to balance up before asking it to give it's all, if you go for them before they get balanced they can appear to have nothing to give and it is very hard to give everything when unbalanced, when carrying big weights it is even harder for the horse to balance up when under pressure The other point is when a trainer puts up a 3kg claimer it tells me that there isn't a lot of confidence in the horses ability to win,
If you don't think a horse can win the race with his full weight why would you even think of backing it with 3kg's less with an inexperienced apprentice on?? 3kg's to a 500kg horses is cutting it very fine, I would think having a Rawiller/Bowman/Brown on and carrying an extra 3kg's would give me a lot more confidence than Wally Shitbags with a 3 kg claim?
Your theory is just using Logic for mine

JP i have no idea about a horses balance and what difference a jockey makes to that. I'm just a struggling punter.
My thinking is that although the trainer has the opportunity to put a claimer on they choose to go with a rider carry the full weight because they are still confident it can win.
Not sure what is wrong with logic when it comes to theories, although i never claimed this was my theory, i'm just tracking the results.

well you can look at it 2 ways, 1. The trainer is confident in his horses ability to handle the weight and thinks it can win 2. The trainer has no confidence in the horse and doesn't think a claim would help anyway!!
In days gone by when Jockeys rode longer if a Horse got unbalanced or was "on the wrong leg" he could just shift his weight in the saddle and throw the horse back onto its right leg, now there is not much a rider can do if a horse gets unbalanced say on the corner, he has to wait until the horse regains it's balance before putting it under pressure, bit hard to explain with words but that is the general idea
My point is only back exceptional apprentices and in general avoid 3 kg claimers especially with high weighted horses, again I have never done any stats to prove the theory
