Beats me.  When is the Melbourne Doncaster run ?

Surely you are not referring to the (insert sponsors name) of Doncaster Handicap.   Doncaster is a suburb of Melbourne.

I know this SOO mentality gets the better of my northern friends but that is just plain paranoid.

Westfield Doncaster is a shopping centre in the suburb of Doncaster, BMW Doncaster is a car dealership in Doncaster.

Doncaster is a 'nouve riche' suburb on top of hill in the eastern suburbs. That is more likely the reason why the built a ritzy mall and an over priced German car dealership there.   I doubt either were established there to exploit vague correspondence to a horse race in Sydney.

Edit :  The Champagne Stakes is one of the oldest race names in Australia, probably only outdated by the Brisbane Cup which was originally run in Sydney in the 1820's.  The Champagne Stakes has been used as a race name since at least the 1840's.  It was one of Jorrocks' races and a crate of champagne was part of the purse with the expectation that the case was cracked to toast the winner.  That was on the old course at Homebush.  It didn't become a juvenile race at Randwick until the 1860's where it was run over 6 furlongs until 1971 when it was first conducted over a mile.

I agree.  There should be only one Champagne Stakes in Australian racing and it should be at Randwick.
