Big Col is a mate of mine.  Col is not an 'educated punter' but he has a system.  It's complicated.  Col bets race 6 #6 unless there is a grey engaged, in which case he backs the grey. 

A couple of years ago I am having a beer with Col on Oaks day and race six was approaching.  Col has marched off to the screens to get the price of the 6 horse when  he stops as if shot, and his head is spinning around with his mouth open like one of those sideshow clowns as he looked at one TV screen after another.

'Wazza matter Col ?' I asked

He just pointed at screen and said " L..l..look !"

Race 6 on Oaks day was the Greys race and everywhere Col looked he could see greys.

"What do I do ???" he implored.

"Well, either you back every damn horse in the race or go the 6 horse."

He gave me a determined nod and went directly to the window.  The 6 horse won, and I had to endure big Col and his never ending testimony about his system and how it never fails.

17 seems to bob up alot at odds. but maybe i just notice it more when it does

And these numbers will always get up and pay huge divvies when you haven't backed them 

My late cousin (God rest his soul): Always back #10 after 4 p.m.

Never on them, but geez you notice them when they get up which seems to be quite often. Was one at 14-1 on Saturday.
