I've been a big MJ fan, but her 1st up run was well below her usual output.
Nash was pretty bullish today but still mentioned she has much more condition on her this prep.

I have an inkling Response will run a cracker.

lots of knocks over yesterday's win, is she looking for 1600m or further? decent trading on betfair as well, 1.3m matched on her alone.

I think she has been tremendously placed to achieve what she has so far - her record says superstar but I think she is just a very very good horse.  I also don't think she handles the Melbourne way, particularly Caulfield, despite it being the scene of her best win (Futurity).  Then all the trouble with the saddle, I thought her run yesterday was excellent.  One thing about her, she does show plenty of fight when the chips are down.

She won but take the jockey's comments as read - not going as well as she has previously. Yet still winning. She is a star.

She may not be Sunline but she's ahead of Typhoon Tracy. She's also in similar position to a lot of really high quality horses that sort of milers. Whobe etc. If you can run 2000m out there's plenty of options, but from 1400m to 1600m you have to look at tackling races outside of wfa.

Good point Steve.  I would really like the Emirates to be changed to WFA (which I actually think is inevitable).  There are already 2 major mile handicaps in the spring, why do we need another one?

Reckon it could happen sooner rather than later manikato1  chin

I did see a suggestion that make it feature with early entries & open betting on it - fits with trying to attract few internationals as well.

She was "tossed in" at the set weights yesterday - have a look at the handicaps in the OP and the weights. How do they work these things out  what

She is a great mare who is probably aqpproaching the end of her racing career. Agree that she doesn't handle Caulfield, but she has that rare quality like we saw in the Toorak last year where she digs deep and finds something when needed.

Bit harsh on TT - both great mares whose G1 records are pretty much equal on paper.

Agree that she does not look to be going as well as she has previously. Has not showed that devastating finish as yet this time in.

Yes/no Cal - rest assured I have no knock on Typhoon Tracy, deserved HOTY - star mare. Admittedly I do have soft spot for MJ.

 @MoreJoyous 21:15-0-2 - 3 open class G1 wins - Typhoon Tracy 20:11-3-2 - 3 open class G1 wins

My gut feel is that MJ at her best was just that bit superior to TT at her best.

A quick glance at AAP ratings - if taken on face value - support that.
