Moyenne Corniche and Macedonian were the two horses that went into my book after the Caulfield carnival and they both look pretty well placed in this.

Moody's 'European method' didn't work with Macedonian last season, and he looks much better since returning from a spell.  He is a dead set deisel and his best form was on the slow tracks last spring.  I like the way he has been progressing and I like the way he is weighted in this.  I'm going to have him up my sleeve if the rain that is expected eventuates.

While Moyenne Corniche has only ever won 2 races he has followed his win in the Ebor with a very encouraging race in the Herb Power - and the form coming out that race is looking pretty good. taking a line through Tanby, Bauer and Macedonian's Caulfield Cup run.

I am always spouting that I basically ignore overseas form (where he has only won 2 of 25) and assess these horses on the basis of what they show on Australian turf - so on that basis I am prepared to ignore the modest strike rate over there and rate him on his Power run.

Green Moon and Tullamore are likely to be at the top of the charts but both are up in weight from their Caulfield Cup runs - Green Moon +3 and Tullamore +2.5.  I reckon I'll risk them, particularly if the rain comes.

Peter Moody was hoping to get Macedonian into the Cup without a run here.

I wonder how many horses are broken trying their damndest to get into the Melbourne Cup and Golden Slipper.

They've opened at $9 and $13 respectively. I like the pommy horse in this.

Macedonian is a tough bugger.  And Moody is covering his bases.  If he is balloted out of the Cup he would be eligible for a $100k bonus if he wins the Lavazza - the race he won last year.  I wouldn't be surprised to see him go around on Tuesday in one race or the other....and on to the Sandown Cup again.

Have to say I think Green Moon has a better chance winning the Cup with 50.5Kg than this with 56.0kg.

I really like this race. I think horses such as Moyenne Corniche, Niwot, Midnight Martini and Booming all present value here.

They're all big winners in the Cup for me so hopefully they go well.

Moyenne Corniche, my Cup horse, needs to win this to get in.  He will.

Looks great value in this to me. If you like it in the Cup i'd be backing it before this is run.
Also like Macedonian's run in CC so will be including him, not sure he has the turn of foot that Moyenne Corniche has though.

That's true Chalky.  Macedonian needs rain to level the playing field...

No, no Tevez.  I said he needs rain to level the playing field.  It doesn't make him go any faster.  It levels the playing field because it makes his opposition slower - and he needs that.   I am under no illusions about this bloke.  He's tough, he stays, but he is not very quick.  They tend to get away from him on top of the ground.  He wins his races when his opponents begin to labor, and they are inclined to labor earlier on wet tracks than firm ones.  He's no racing car. He's a deisel - lots of bottom end, not much acceleration.

Macedonian's form is well exposed, he's a group 3/ listed class horse at best.
He had a wet track in the Sydney Cup and it still wasn't enough to bring him into the frame, harder here.

I'd expect to see him have a jumps prep in the near future.
