I having been playing around with some First 4 methods, and wondered if any have any particular approaches / methods that they prefer and might like to share. DD shared with us some yrs ago an approach of ABC for trifectas that can be used for F4's, selecting your A B and C runners and then taking a few tickets where an A or B runner must win, and a A runner must run 1, 2, 3 or 4 (if taking 4 tickets). The A runner/s are those you are confident could win or should run a place, B runner/s those you consider a danger / chance, C runners those you expect / need to fill the holes. If your A runners don't fill a hole you have a dead combination. This explanation will require further detail. Any other approaches / methods that others like to use / find helpful? I have attached as a pdf a copy of the worksheet that I use based on the approach outlined by DD in this thread which might be helpful for anyone interested.
If anyone has trouble with a download please let me know or alternativly email me at - thesevens777@hotmail.com and I shall send you a copy.NB. This is the method that I use more often than not, but can be modified to suit (more or less A B or C selections), and is to act as a guide only.

Wasn't a difficult first four, PS.
An email I received this morning suggested:
10 - 9 - 4 from 2 - 5 - 6
The recommended strategy of 2-2-2 gets 25% for just $51. Good strategy that.
As the divvies indicate, those canny Qlders didn't miss it.

Hehehe - I got a bit of it mate. Once you put them on regularly it will become like clockwork.
Ambidexter finishing ahead of one of the Kiwi's may have boosted the divy a little more.

Cal - I missed putting the 'Cs' in for 2nd on the 1st ticket I was only guessing on % so didn't pick up on my error until after the event

PS, not sure if I can give guidance, knowing the result.
IFFF I had 7 chances, I'd probably break them down 2 - 3 - 2.
That means either of A must run 1, 2 or 3. The 2nd line horses can WIN.
The 2-3-2 breakdown has 456 combos.

Thanks DD but I only use the Alts in the case of a late scratching, so selections in this race were six, but computer acting completely blind usually picks somewhere between five and eight selections. Only some do I get.

In the Doncaster I could not work out how No 16 seemed to go missing from some of the computer displays and eventually found that somehow No 16 had got scratched inadvertently within my data file; ( a figure 9 was input as 99 unfortunately the code for scratching in a key field ).

This is what does my head in with exotics Marked out my selections as per the A,B & C etc for the Sydney Cup, then for some explicable reason I decide to have a roving banker (Drunken Sailor) instead of what I've just written down. Of course my selections (1st ticket) would have got the cash, only small % but did pay $13k Know I remember why I gave up taking exotics for so long, too often I 2nd guess myself, something I don't do betting straight out

It's the deep troughs between the peaks that frustrate exotic punters.
The widely-acclaimed A-B-C methodsfor Tris and FFs go some way to making the troughs a little shallower.
But ya gotta stick with it.

I considered a try, because of the big FF jackpot on Tatts. I don't think I would have had OWW.
I backed the 4th dog at $7.8 the place. Got shunted in by NIWOT over the rise, but I figure he'd have still run 4th.
