Surely Bauer is one of the best bets of the week.

When did this race become a 2600m contest ?

I am amazed how often time honored races have their conditions changed without any debate within the industry.

Last year.  And this race was traditionally 2600m when run in the Autumn.

I think the distance is a good change, with the rail a long way out it makes it a bloody short run to a horrid first turn.

Agreed.  The Flemington 2500m start is awful and I shudder to think what it must have been like when they used to run the Derby at 12 furlongs.  Thankfully I am (just) too young to remember. dry

I know these are famous last words, but no matter how I look at this race I just cannot see how they beat the top one.

I think he will start in the red. Price at the moment is a luxury.

I think you might be right.

A good double for the weekend, Bauer $2.30 - Strong Suit $5.00.

Yes as I suggested above he Bauer is not one of the stand out bets of the week I'll give up. He's a G 1 quality stayer with class unlucky not to have been competitive last Tuesday, his consolation will be providing what looks like a field of B level opponents a staying lesson. The $2.60 they put up early in the week was never going to last, if you wanted to anchor a best bet for the weekend then this is it at the $2.30 still on offer as Vamps is right I'mm sure he'll start odds on when winning tomorrow.

Yes you are right Tevez, opened $3.20 last Wednesday, was crunched very quickly to around $2.60 by yesterday morning, kept firming since.
