Seems a few are interested in how compensation / insurance payouts work in the Racing Industry, more so to do with Jockey's with serious injuries.

Like not being able to walk again, and whether the amounts they receive are fair amounts to keep them going for the rest of their lives.

We will debate the issue in this thread, and leave the other for it's main purpose.  Thumb Up

In Queensland, to my knowledge, they ride under an industry-wide cover negotiated by RQL.  Recall some media discussion a while back when jockeys/RQL were at loggerheads over riding fees.  I expect that covers all riding on licensed premises, etc, etc.

Outside that, there would still be scope to take action against another rider or company if negligence could be proved.  Shrug

Yeah, I didn't think they'd be up for WorkCover. 

What's covered or not covered would simply be what RQL has paid for plus any extra personal insurance.

Be interesting to know what level of benefits the industry policy provides.

It's a very dangerous occupation, I imagine the premiums would be rather high.

Race riding is absolutely a very dangerous occupation.

Many dont realise how dangerous the game is for those that get the horse to the races though!

Breakers have THE most dangerous job, farriers and in particular, trackwork riders are the forgotten heroes of the industry
