The justracing.com.au website has reproduced a "reply" from Tattsbet CEO Barrie Fletton in response to certain comments on the website.

I find this comment in relation to "Deductions" not only astounding, but totally out-of-step of what would be expected by Tattsbet's customers:

Deductions – This is an age old argument, but I don’t hear whinges from punters who receive a refund when their horse is scratched. Personally, I prefer betting to be all in, but that is unlikely given the VRCs attempts to appease those punters whose horse is scratched late.

One can only hope this attitude is never applied.

Truly gobsmacking material.

Anyone got any intelligence on the "VRC's attempt to appease punters whose horse is scratched"?  Surely VRC isn't trying to tell TABs that we deserve a refund????

The more I think about this, the closer I'm getting to needing medical attention.

I am not going into bat for the CEO of Tatts but having read the transcript I think his reference to "the VRC's attempt to appease punters whose horse is scratched" is probably referring to fixed priced betting revolved around the Melbourne Cup.Under Victorian legislation, if a bet is placed at fixed odds on a horse after final acceptances a refund is made for any scratching and a late deduction rate is applied against the winner of the race. As it presently stands, with prepost betting on the Cup having been going since August the CEO maybe suggesting that there is little difference between a scratching after final Cup acceptances ( after the last on Derby day ) and those falling by the wayside since August, and that  fixed odds betting on the Cup should be ALL IN no matter when a horse is scratched.

Thanks, Bubba.

The words used certainly need some tidying up.  Great Idea

Years ago I backed a horse to win the Slipper on the Tuesday, it was scratched about 10 am race morning.

IAS refused to repay stake as it was a late scratching.

I read the NT Rules and as the meeting was in the hands of the Steward it was indeed a L/s and therefore they ruled in my favour.

Seems like the Melb cup scenario is similar to help protect and use the Call of the card and injury from Sat racing to help protect the punter and the standing of the prerace hype. Which is good imo.

As for what Barwie said it doesnt seem to be a throw away line, Sounds as if given the opportunity he would rape the punter again.

While I wouldn't necessarily like it, I can see the point that fixed odds betting should be all in up until scratchings are finalised.

I had a bet a while ago with a syndicate of mates on a Gai Waterhouse horse with Sports Odds for the vrc derby (helenus won that year). The market was framed after declaration and when it got scratched, we were not refunded our money. We rang up and objected. They listened to our conversation with the operator, refunded our money and cancelled the account.
