One of the things getting quite lot of media in Victoria - is - as I understand it - the value/need in publicly trialing horses.
I have scant interest in 2yo races - no interest in betting on them - until at least after Blue Diamond. Even then probably represents 2% of my overall punt for a year.
Just wondered in forumites thoughts - how much do you spend on 2yo racing - do you like it - do you not like it - any likes/dislikes.
Cheers

They are great races to bet on if you are at the races and can see them parade, not being there I treat them exactly the same as you do Steve, I don't even bother to look at them from a punting point of view until you have some form behind them

Love em.
I like maidens as well.
Tomorrows 2yo at Werribee has thrown up a few curly ones.
Why isnt Chris Symons riding the Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra mount the beautifully bred but gelded Game Of Shadows ? He is on board the Shaun Dwyer trained Hotel Grand colt Torcan.
The best bred horse in the race is EKIBUUKA.

I'm wondering by lack of responses is that matched by punter interest

2yo's are the best races to bet on if you know the true ability of the horses - got massive overs on black caviar for example

So we wait another 50 years for the next one, della?
I doubt anyone knew what lay ahead for BC when she was "overs". 20-20 hindsight is a rare gift in racing. I salute those you have it.

It's 20/20 foresight I salute. And in respect of Black Caviar it's Arakaan I salute.

I thought Brawny Spirit was a solid 50's hope so unloaded at the overs Actually that's complete lie I find 2yo racing, mind numbingly uninteresting to the most part. Maybe if they went on a bit better as 3yo and 4yo's I'd respect it bit more.

Trust me, all the pros bet on are 2 yo, maidens, lower class races. Just an old wives tale that u shouldnt bet on those races.

Takes a bit of punting skill to find 2yo winners so understandable why most quickly avoid them

Paul I think you missed the gist of what some have said, if you are AT the races they are great races to bet on, in the later part of the season when form is disclosed they are good races to bet on, before Christmas there are far too many unknowns for anyone who bets away from the track to play with, Steve Irwin thought it was OK to play with Crocodiles but I would't get with in Cooee of a Croc with my knowledge of Crocs(all I know is they eat people), if I knew what "the Croc Hunter" knew I may feel different about them, same with punting, I don't get in a pool with Sharks/Crocs who know more than I do!! Another thing, I worry about people who say "Trust me" if I didn't trust them in the first place and they say "Trust me" it just confirms my suspicions

I follow the first season sires each year . I 'm still waiting for a first season sire who will replicate what Without Fear did in 1975-76. He got something like 33 individual 2 year old winners that season. Lion Hunter and More Than Ready have done okay in more recent years - both got 16 individual winners out of a limited number of starters
Like some other members, I tend not to bet until the Magic Millions comes around.
